The first album I ever purchased with my own hard-earned cash was "The Beatles Second Album". I was 10 years old and living in London, England. Dad was in the Navy and I bought it at the base "PX" (post exchange).

Santana's third album (untitled) was the very first album (vinyl) I ever bought, with money I saved.
The album was released 1971, I was 14 then. To me, those were the best of times, rock-music wise.

There were some children's albums my parents got for my brothers and sister and I. I also used to listen to my Uncle's Johnny Rivers and Johnny cash albums. The first album I ever got on my own was the Beatles Rock And Roll Compilation.

Hmmmm...I think the very first album I actually chose for myself was not a rock album. It was The Little Drummer Boy: A Christmas Festival by the Harry Simeone Choral (1966 I believe). Really not a bad choice. I still have the 2nd copy I purchased as a teenager, and I listen to it every year at Yuletide (on a CD transfer).
I'm very proud of the second and third albums that I chose. For Christmas, 1967, at the age of 10, I asked my parents for either Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band or the Monkees' Pieces, Aquarius, Capricorn, and Jones Ltd.. They got me both albums actually. Those two albums are still incredibly sentimental to me.
