I think the women in the music business back in the 60s and 70s had real class. I don't recall ever seeing Grace Slick, Michelle Phillips, Joan Baez or the Wilson sisters prancing around in next to nothing to entertain their audience. They didn't need to! The only woman I can think of from that era that wasn't too moderate was Tina Turner but she still kept things classy as opposed to raunchy.
There are more than a couple pictures of a naked Janis Joplin out there :barf: :puke:

A big part of Woodstock was dirty naked hippies running around in the rain and mud.

I'm sure there are more instances that could be brought up by people more in the know on some of the female stars of the day, but I'm just saying, that they weren't all 'classy'. Some yes. Then look at the guys of the late 60's through the 70's. wearing pants so tight you could count the veins in their unit (if you chose to do so). Punk and semi punk females flashing the bewbs and/or beavis on stage.

Sex sells, it's a fact. Not saying it's a good thing, but it is a fact. Look at how much society has changed regarding sex, near nudity, etc from the 60's to today. With current pop stars wearing skimpy clothes is hardly unacceptable in today's society (not defending it, just pointing it out).

Again sex sells. If a good looking gal flashes some skin to sell concert tickets and/or albums, it's going to happen. IF she looks like a yeti, not so much.

I see where you are coming from and agree with some of it, but this whole scene isn't new and it's not because Britney, Christina, etc are any less classy than the generation that came before them (ie; Cher in the late 80's and early 90's... Madonna through the first 10+ yrs of her career, Samantha Fox during her 15 minutes of fame, etc).

His opinion is no less valid than anyone elses, including yours. Try and keep the direct flamming comments behind closed doors, if you could plz.

When it is generalizing, assumption based, and hypocritcal I find it hard to call it valid.

Also I wasn't even remotely close to flamming him Lynch.

You of all people should know when I flame.

There's always going to be trashy behavior in the music business.

Another thing I bugs me are punk bands. I could never get into bands like the Sex Pistols. They're just loud and obnoxious.

Oh and another thing about the Sex Pistols. I heard that Johnny Rotten guy is a real ***** who has something against women. Seems to punch them out a lot. But I guess I shouldn't expect much from that band, the bassist stabbed and killed his girlfriend.

Oh well, people can like whatever they want, whether they're a bunch of women beaters or not... as long as they don't get their own reality tv show. better to be a woman beater than a sellout I guess.

It helps if you can separate personal lives with the music. They are two different things. You can enjoy the music, but you don't have to like the person playing it.

Right? Jimmy Page slept with barely pubescent girls but I still eat, sleep and breathe Zeppelin. :heheh:

-I listen to a lot of music from the 70's and 80's that is considered cheesy. People used to say "stop being ironic", "look at this guy being ironic" just because one of my favorite albums was Use Your Illusion II. Also dad rock is the new term people use to make fun of classic rock. :mad

Well, I've seen 80's rock referred to as "butt rock", "cock rock" and "corporate rock" which is worse to me than any "dad rock" moniker.

I don't have much to contribute (per usual), but one trend I don't enjoy seeing is the following.

-Members who are not the "regular" lead singer being permitted to sing anywhere between 1-3 songs per studio album. Mind you, a band like Queen, the Beatles, Kiss or Fleetwood Mac who allowed everybody to sing is one thing.

However, I don't enjoy listening to Dokken albums in which they let the bass player sing one song and the drummer sing another. Which happened.

Don't enjoy listening to Motley Crue albums in which Tommy Lee is allowed to sing one song, Nikki Sixx another and then Mick Mars a third. Which also happened.

Don't enjoy listening to Van Halen albums in which Eddie sings, (How Many Say I on Van Halen III), a tune which David Lee Roth once referred to as sounding "like hot water on a sick cat." Also happened.

Yeah I see "butt rock" thrown around all the time.

Your Van Halen/Motley Crue comment reminds me of Dee Dee Ramone singing on some Ramones tunes. :mad
