Which song does the best job of tying a great album together and closing it out?

My choice: Won't Get Fooled Again from Who's Next

Honorable mention: Jungleland from Born to Run

I see TW is making us think today...I'll lob "Space Truckin'" off Machine Head by Deep Purple as a candidate...the perfect end to one of the strongest albums ever recorded.

I think my pick might just be "Purple Rain". It's honestly one of my favorite songs and a gorgeous recording.

The Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" also comes to mind.

The Beatles' "The End/Her Majesty" on Abbey Road was the first thing that came to mind for me.

In terms of personal favorites, I'll go with When the Levee Breaks. That was a monster way to end a monster album for me. On the lighter side, I like Til' Kingdom Come by Coldplay. A nice chill, relaxing song to draw a close to the pure energy that is X&Y. And who could ever forget Who's Next coming to a halt with Won't Get Fooled Again? I think Roger's scream is a good ending for any album!

I've always thought it was a shame that Blackmore refused to let "When a Blind Man Cries" on the "proper" album, it makes such a wonderfully melancholy closer. Just my two cents worth, anyway.

Heh, kinda funny. Cosmic and I have a lot in common some days and other days, we are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Today, we are in sync completely. The first song that came to mind, without even thinking about it, or reading anyone else's posts was Prince - Purple Rain. What a great song!

My other top choice would be Kiss - Black Diamond (from their self titled debut)

Love Reign O'er Me is one of my top fave tunes by the Who. I didn't even remember that it's the last song on Quad as I never listen to that album, just specific songs off of it. Great choice there as well Cosmic.

A couple others off the top of my head:

Kiss - Strange Ways (from Hotter Than Hell)
Kiss - War Machine (from Creatures of the Night)
Kiss - And On the 8th Day (from Lick It Up)
Metallica - The Call of Ktulu (from Ride the Lightning)
Scorpions - Still Loving You (from Love at First Sting)
Scorpions - Holiday (from Lovedrive)
Scorpions - Believe in Love (from Savage Amusement)
Scorpions - Send Me An Angel (from Crazy World)
AC/DC - Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution (from Back in Black)

I better stop

Heh, kind of an interesting note that the 4 songs I picked from the Scorps are all power ballads. Great way to close out an album IMHO.

A Day in the Life to end Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band. Quite possibly the best song by the best band on the most influential album of all time.

Others:
Jungleland by Springsteen
Are you Experienced? by Hendrix
Tonight's the Night Part 2 by Neil Young
Tomorrow Never Knows by the Beatles
