The smartassed, underground piano man, Ben Folds has been putting out albums for some good 15 years now. In the 90's he worked under the Ben Folds Five flag and put out the group's self titled debut "Ben Folds Five", "Whatever and Ever Amen", and "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner". With the new millennium came a new Ben Folds as he disbanded the Five and launched his solo career, which has given us the albums "Rockin' The Suburbs", "Songs for Silverman", "Way to Normal", and most recently, the Nick Hornby collaboration, "Lonely Avenue".

Now my question to all of you is which do you prefer? Ben Folds Five or Ben Folds solo?

I'll say Ben Folds Five as it had a fuller sound and better overall albums from start to finish. It was more of an original idea of a rock band with just a pianist, a bassist and a drummer producing a big sound. It's just more ambitious in scope. Now with that said I love Ben Folds solo work but it's more uneven album wise. The exception is his debut solo Rocking The Suburbs which I love all the way through and has my favorite Ben Folds songs Not The Same and The Luckiest. The other big exception is Ben Folds Live which is actually my favorite Ben Folds album period where he does amazing versions of his old BFF material as well as the current at the time solo work. He just had a better overall sound and better track record with the group IMO so it's Ben Folds Five for me! :grinthumb

I vote for Ben Folds Five, because their first album is too good, and I like the overall sound better. Not knockin his solo stuff, as I love it too!

Solo. Whenever I want to listen to Ben Folds, I listen to Ben Folds Live. None of the album versions are as good as they sound on the album IMO.
