I haven't seen a thread along these lines, though I could have been using all of the wrong search terms.

So have at it.

What are some of the more infamous or notable feuds that took place between two artists?

That could include two groups insulting each other back and forth because they don't like each other musically. It could be a feud that started because of a bad experience together on tour. It could also have started because one band didn't like the idea of another having corporate sponsorship on tour.

Any era of music, from the dawn of rock and roll up until today. Whatever web links, video links or just plain old anecdotes help your cause are more than welcome.

The thread is titled #1 to keep this limited to feuds between one artist and another artist. You can soon expect a second thread dedicated solely to feuds inside of one particular band (such as Deep Purple or Journey). If at all possible, try to keep these separated.

For those who care to mention feuds between individual band members in a single band, drop in here: http://www.classicrockforums.com/forum/f4/notable-rock-roll-feuds-2-within-band-12935/

I seem to recall a feud between Kevin DuBrow and Ozzy Osbourne where Dubrow was bad mouthing Ozzy in the press. And if I'm not mistaken Ozzy met up with Dubrow at some radio station and gave him a solid ass whipping.

Also recall a feud between Eddie Van Halen and Ritchie Blackmore where both men were at some sort of public function (which I don't remember) and Eddie went over to Blackmore and attempted to shake his hand to which Ritchie snubbed him and walked away. Some said that it was mean't as a practical joke being Blackmore had done that with friends in the past. Though Van Halen was said to take it personal being he didn't know him very well. And believe that it happened on more than one occassion. Blackmore also said in a magazine interview that Eddie was technically brilliant as a guitarist but didn't play with any emotion which didn't sit too well with him (Van Halen).

Posted me in the other thread, was confused

Umm I guess there is a couple. The main two that come to mind are Blur vs Oasis which was basically a battle centred around the voice of the British upper class (blur) vs the voice of the british working class (Oasis)

The other one which I think of is the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Both bands came from very similar origins and began as friends but when the Dandy Warhols broke the big time the Brian Jonestown Massacre decided that they had sold out their alternative roots. And that's where the fight continued from, the brian jonestown massacre continually opposing the commercialization of bands while the dandy warhols standing by the fact a band can be popular while still maintaining their musical integrity

...........I am not quite sure if Richie Blackmore and David Coverdale ever got over their 'disagreement'?. Two great talents, with two great egos to accompany them:D. Let's hope they did,or one day will.

Some of my favorite back and forth mudslingings have been:

-Guns N' Roses vs Motley Crue
-Sum 41 vs SR71
-Kiss (Gene Simmons) vs Carlos Santana
-Limp Bizkit vs Marilyn Manson
-Limp Bizkit vs Metallica
-Metallica vs Motley Crue
-Godsmack vs Creed

I recall BJM vs. The Dandy Warhols, they were at first big friends, then got in fight, and now I think they're okay again.

And Ginger Baker vs. probably all other drummers on the Earth. :oyea:
