Don't know if this is the place to post this but...Back in Black. Hasn't it sold like a quadrillion CD's/downloads by now ? Isnt it mandatory that every mother buys a copy to give to her newborn at birth ?...giving him/her a sense of guidance in this world ? A sense of....what " rocks " and.....what " doesn't rock " ?

In all seriousness, for all out ballsy hard rock, i think it is the best. It is the yardstick by which all other hard rock is measured . I would say that Scorps lovedrive is a close second or could be better because of its diverse material and ballads....but for mainstream hard rock ? AC/DC Back in Black !

They still play every single track on the radio. Not one bad song. Not one.

A very popular album indeed, but I cannot say it's the "Best Hard Rock" album ever recorded, most commercially successful?...no doubt about that.

I actually prefer "Highway to Hell" myself, but have tons of respect for Brian stepping up and doing an unbelievable great job replacing Bon Scott.

I don't think there is another thread like this one HR, and the Lounge is the right place to put your thread.

I actually like the whole Bon Scott era better ( and Bon's voice) but...that album. Its perfect.

The only gripe is that all the BnB re-masters suck. The 16 bit original master was way better than any of the 24bit digi pack stuff they put out. Compressed, gated, low end cranked. Sounds like HELL ! And not in a good way ! No life to em'.

I had lost my old 16 bit original master but i was on a job cleaning out this filthy RV trailer....what do i find ? A original master Back in Black cd. SCORE !

The only other Fully strong and fresh album they did with Brian was Razors Edge IMO.

Still a great band !

Oh and i could say the song " givin the dog a bone " is the weakest track ( repetitive riff ) but the double meaning lyrics more than make up for it !

Indeed I agree with you about a lot of the newer remasters, the idiots at the record companies think we all listen to i-pods and have ruined many great albums botching the balance.:mad

I rate Highway...as their perfect album, I love every song on it and it has sentimental value on top of everything else.:D

Of all the Brian era ACDC albums, Back in Black and For Those About To Rock would be my two picks. I never really played Razor's Edge enough to get a feel for it...perhaps I will revisit it again seeing you rate it so high.

Great album indeed! I can't argue with the numbers sold! Best Hard Rock album ever could be arguable but it is definitely up there. The one thing I always wondered was what would have happened had Bon Scott not had passed away? Did Back & Black give the band a Fresh new start with Johnson as vocalist or was it riding on the coat tails of Highway to Hell?? I'm just curious what people think & I'm not trying to cause another Bon vs Brian war.(this isn't meant to be a who's better question)

I really think they were on their way to becoming Huge with Bon still Alive. They toured with Aerosmith during Powerage & that really boosted their career. Highway to Hell was pretty huge in my area & you could just feel they were about to explode. By then they were headlining (I seen them with Pat Travers & they were Amazing)

I agree with LG (I prefer Highway to Hell) but man Brian really stepped up to fill Bon's shoes & I give him all the credit in the world

I also have to say that Back in Black & The Blizzard of Oz albums really came in & almost saved Hard Rock. Zeppelin was done, Kiss was going through a pop phase, Alice Cooper was going New Wave/punk, Queen was going pop, Aerosmith lost Joe Perry, Nugent kind of bombed with his Intensities in 10 Cities album & 2 years previous all these bands were the most popular hard rock acts.

With the success of Back in Black & Blizzard of OZ they paved the way for the Scorpions, Maiden, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, & Quiet Riot to reach mainstream audiences. (I know bands like Priest & the Scorps were already around during the 70's but it was Screaming for Vengeance & Blackout that had those 2 bands headlining arenas)

I think it was a stand alone record. Yeah, they had built their audience with Bon but...it was like a convergence of many things coming together. Some of the inspiration is so personal/spiritual/otherworldy to Brian during the recording process...he wont even discuss it. It was just one of those magic things that can never be reproduced.

I honestly didn't like much of any of their 80's albums other than " blow up your video "...that one was ok. Brian is one of the coolest most respectful guys in rock...and still gives the respect to Bon to the point where he still considers himself the "replacement"....however, his voice. It just sounds painful to me nowdays. Not to sound disrespectful but someone made the joke that his voice sounds like " marge Simpson when shes pissed at Homer" nowdays.I have to agree.

But Back in Black is just the stuff. They do play shook me all night long way too much on the radio and strip clubs. Its a great song but i cringe when hear it. Overplayed.

Back In Black is a fantastic piece of work and it definitely sits up there with the very best hard rock albums IMO.
