Another artist with a formula is Chuck Berry.

Seriously, I swear Johnny B. Goode and Roll Over Beethoven have the same opening riff :wtf:

Hey Chuck made due with what he had back in those days. Back when whippersnappers like us where decades from being born he was walking through 3 feet of snow barefoot and uphill on his way to work, . Those were very hard times.

(That's what my grandpa used to tell us kids about his childhood :D)

My claim of riding the gravy train is a boat load of Rap artist who pretty much use the same techniques that they all do.. just pick one who is unique..and you drop the percentage by .05 percent..:bonk:
Creating a list would be a waste of time..
Others would be
Creed
Ween
Boys Love girls
They Might Be Giants
The Shat
Radiohead
Morrisey
Beyonce
Lady Gaga

Those should be a start even though they are not all rock artist..:heybaby:

I know I shouldn't get in on this but really radiohead really has very little formula at all. I don't want to clog up the page with links and all that but if you would care to give a listen I can pm you a couple of tracks which could well change your mind

At the risk of being run out of town, I'll submit that Aerosmith has been rather formulaic since their 1987 comeback album Permanent Vacation. Steven Tyler also seems to have been wrapped up by the power ballad as a means to success.

I might do the same thing if I was in his shoes, but I'd still love to hear some more of that edgy devil may care shit that they came out with in the 70's.

I think Foo Fighters fit pretty well. It seems like their last couple albums have been on autopilot for sure.
Also, a lot of metal bands fit into this pretty good too. One I can think of off the top of my head is Killswitch Engage. You can pretty much predict when he is going from clean vocals to growls, and what melody he will sing (usually an upwards arpeggio lol).
I'll probably get hanged for this, but I think a lot of powermetal sounds very similar and to a formula. I like it of course, but I think it all sounds very much alike.
And one more, NICKELB.... Damn, I can't say it? :D

I got that feeling, but it's not that I was trying to get him to like them it's just they are as far from formularised as you can get

Yeah Fisha, Radiohead gets hated on quite frequently on this forum! I really don't understand how they are even close to following some sort of formula. They are far from that. I think Radiohead will pop up in any thread where people get a chance to rip on them. :bonk:

Their first two albums maybe but overall, no. "Meteroa" and "Hybrid Theory" sounded similiar yes (though I think two albums in would be a bit soon to consider a band on autopilot) and them with "Minutes to Midnight" they changes their sound (for the worse) and sounded like U2 and with this new album they're all electronicy and indie-ish and have completely lost what I liked about them.

So autopilot? I don't think so.
