We Are The Fallen is a combination of three former members of Evanescence (Ben Moody, Rocky Gray, JonLeCompt) and longtime under the radar vocalist Carly Smithson. Now everyone and their mother knows who Evanescence is and hell they may even know the name Ben Moody. Ben was Evanescence's co-founder and crucial songwriter. Since breaking apart from the group which is essentially the Amy Lee project now, Ben cemented a career as a songwriter for hire. Now the one you may not now but should is this woman:

I discovered Carly under the moniker Carly Hennessy as a pop artist who was working under the tutelage of my two favorite pop songwriters Danielle Brisebois and Gregg Alexander. While browsing I came upon her single the double entendre laced

I'm Gonna Blow Your Mind

The song had the pop flavor I liked as Gregg's influence was all over it but it was the b-side I liked better as it was more serious and let me hear her nice tone.

It was obvious Gregg and Danielle recognized they had a vocal talent on their hands. Danielle handed over songs she had actually recorded herself (and strong favorites of mine at that) and they both put a lot of muscle behind the c.d.:

Now obviously the c.d. was a flop but it was a personal darkhorse c.d. that I loved. I thought Carly was a great vocalist with the perfect pop sass to match. My personal favorites off this c.d. were the following:

Her perfect covers of Danielle Brisebois Tracks:

Just Missed The Train
(far better than Kelly Clarkson's who also got handed the song)

Rip In Heaven
(gorgeous and matches the original which I love)

A harder rockin' song penned in part by Sheryl Crow:

All Kinds of People

So even with great reviews and a strong faith by many in the industry Ultimate High was a huge flop. So it was with joy and confusion when amongst controversy Carly became an American Idol contestant. I may have been one of the few to actually know her career before the media exposed it. Despite this negative press of her past experience, having had her shot and being accused of having an unfair advantage she still made the top six based on her talent. Here was her audition and one of her strongest performances:

Audition

Jesus Christ Superstar

So with that intro to Carly I understand why yet another group of musicians thought she had potential to move on what is essentially Ben Moody's half of Evanescence! Stay tuned for the results!

So here's the release of their c.d.:

Tear The World Down

After still being fresh to the c.d. I must say I like it and while it obviously sounds like Evanescence it'd be a big duh to think that's an issue. Three members of Evanescence are in this band and have every right to continue their sound and vision just as much as Amy Lee. Anyway, the vocals are great as expected IMO but I'll let you be the judge now of the music itself!

Wow, Sooty. I like this group. I loved Evanescence, when all the members were together. You are right they do have the same sound, but the vocalist makes the difference.

I haven't had time to explore the entire CD yet, but I will for sure.

I wondered what happened to Ben Moody, now I know. I can say that I feel him leaving Evanescence left a huge hole in the old band.

I'll be back later to play the songs, don't have time right now.;)

Sweet! It goes to show an artist can go from pop to something heavier without coming off fake IMO! Even Micheal Bolton did it, just in reverse! :heheh:

I have finally got around to catching up on some of this new music. I have the album "Tear the World Down".....I like it very much. It's amazing how much they do sound like Evansecence, which is fine with me. This chick, Carly, also has an amazing voice.

I haven't given the album a proper spin (which means 3 or more listens) but so far I am really liking this group

I think the whole c.d. is great and I've loved Carly since her solo career so seeing her get the opportunity is great! :grinthumb
