Ok boys, settle down. Do we really need another pointless fight over whether hip-hop is good or not yet again?

Of course not. I already know it's bad. I knew that from the first time I compared James Brown, Otis Redding and the Four Tops' sixties recordings to NWA, Public Enemy and Tupac's nineties records. It was game, set and match right there.

I'd say the 2000's. Many veteran artists are releasing underwhelming music (understand I am not saying all of them are). At the same time, there aren't really any new artists emerging who I like.

The last new bands to come along that I did like reasonably well were Buckcherry, Silvertide, SR-71, Mars Electric, Stretch Princess, American Pearl and Beautiful Creatures, all but one of which are now defunct I believe. Buckcherry being the only one that is still active.

And at least a couple of them I am pretty sure actually "emerged" during the late 1990's instead of the 2000's, but I am not going to fact check that today.

Ooh, SR-71, if you're going to like a 2000 band you've got a good one there.

Definitely, those guys rocked. Too bad their second full album flopped and their third studio album was only released in Europe/Asia (only available in the US as an import).

Nowadays, I believe the singer of SR-71 (Mitch Allan) is writing songs for other artists and has been writing for some fairly popular ones, to boot.

If you liked SR-71, I'd probably suggest Mars Electric. They got some similarities to SR-71, including the fact that their final album was never released in the US and can only be bought as an import.

I'm somewhat surprised when I did this poll that the 2000's would rate the highest, but then again this is a classic rock forum. For me, there is so much more musical diversity covered by so many sub-genres compared to the 80's. I would bet that if this poll was conducted in another ten years that things would be different.

In ten years 2010 would most likely win the poll Joe.:grinthumb

Time and distance, is the only way to evaluate the Weight of a musical decade.

It's all just for fun and discussion anyway.:hab:

I don't know if I agree with that, LG:D

I've already found more material I like, this year alone, already, than in all of the 2000s, even from bands that released some material in the 2000s, I've liked their newest records that have been released this year.. and I'm seeing a lot of bands coming up that I think will be famous and very good... even pleasant to listen to, within this coming decade..

^^It is impossible for me to draw any conclusions about 2010 yet, there have not been enough new artists establish themselves as far as measuring them against the previous decades output and longevity.
