Re: Blues Traveler

I'm bewildered. It's the same album cover with the same scruffy cat. And I thought I was bumping the thread up.

:dunno:

Re: Blues Traveler

You were putting the band down, which is counter productive. The only thing going up is the post count which is completely irrelevant!

Re: Blues Traveler

they are a great live band. Johnny Popper prooves that you dont have to be a thin guy to be a great frontman. Nobody really talks about but most frontmen are incredibly thin sometimes almost skeletal. Is it just an image thing to be a skinny frontman?

Re: Blues Traveler

:heheh:
There have been a few chubbier frontmen through rock's history, Greg.. Lowell George comes to mind:D

Anyways, I thought this thread needed a bump, a very brilliantly, musical bump.. :bump:
In the spirit of having hope this thread will be more active as BT is such a great band...

Re: Blues Traveler

Blues Traveler is a New Jersey based band originally consisting of singer/harmonica player John Popper, guitarist Chan Kinchla, bassist Bobby Sheehan, and drummer Brendan Hill. Blues Traveler has delivered some of the greatest harmonica jams since they first released their debut album in 1990. Unfortunately, bassist Bobby Sheehan died of a drug overdose in 1999 and was replaced by Tad Kinchla, younger brother of Chan. In 1999, the band also decided they needed a keyboardist and ran an advertisement in Keyboard Magazine, and ended up hiring Ben Wilson from the add.

R.I.P Bobby Sheehan!

Actually Majic they are from Princeton, NJ and formed in 87. Been a fan since around the time they released their debut in 1990. My friend lived around the corner from Wetlands where they were a staple in 1990 along with the spin doctors. saw them 15+ times before Bobby died :( and a few times after. To m Bobby was the heart of the band so they lost me after. Their New Year's shows at Roseland were insane always lots of guests and long jams.

Favorite album is Travelers & Thieves(esp, with the on tour forever extra disc with Santana on Mountain Cry)
both the first four albums are excellent.

I agree, Blues Traveler wasn't the same after Bobby Sheehan's death. He was the big anchor for those monster jams.

It's hard to believe, Bobby Sheehan died 11 years ago, this past August.

Re: Blues Traveler

I'll have to dig through my heap of albums and give these guys a listen, I do love harmonica and there are not enough bands who specialize in using it these days.

John isn't so heavy anymore, Greg. He had gastric bypass surgery after suffering a heart attack in 1999. He lost 200 lbs after the surgery.
