Is it really fitting to blame "terrible" music on the Velvet Underground? Seriously?

I will admit they're a bit of an acquired taste, but they rather fit right in with a more mellow psychedelic bunch of groups than obnoxious stuff that surfaced years after.

The Velvet Underground are one of my absolute favorite bands, particularly their first 2 albums.

However, there's really no arguing that they're one of the most influential bands in rock history, and most of the things that they influenced were terrible...Indie rock, alt rock, pretentious art rock, there's just so much shit that the Velvets spawned. I mean, it's not their fault, they were just making incredible music, they had no idea that it would influence so much terrible music, or that anyone would ever even hear it.

Fox, it's really such a shame. These kids had all the advantages, and they just made a mockery out of their solid upbringing. If only they had learned from Keith instead of trying to be caricatures of him.

I know. Poor Keith. He deserves so much better. :(

Every big band influenced a lot of crappy music. The Stones influenced ****ing hair metal and every obnoxious cock rock band in history, the Velvet Underground influenced a slew of just terrible music, and you can blame just about everything awful that's ever happened in the history of rock music after the 60's on the Beatles.

As far as I can see, Iggy and Johnny have a much better batting average than most other acts.

Well stated. Let's not forget that the Beatles have also influenced some pretty awful musicians, as well as some excellent ones.
