Re: The official Bon Jovi thread

So what are your feelings on these albums man? I know you're a huge fan but I can't really tell which ones you like overall so far. Do you have any opinions on the high points and low points so far? Honestly, the only Bon Jovi album I own before Crossroads came out is Slippery While Wet! :D What are the best of the earliest albums to get? Does anything come close to the feel of These Days in their whole catalog?

Oh man!! I like all the albums,my favorite being the monster rock album "New Jersey"...I wish they's put out another album like that.

released June 27,1995

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

These Days is Bon Jovi's sixth studio album, and was released on June 27, 1995. This was the first album Bon Jovi released after the leaving of bassist Alec John Such. Hugh McDonald unofficially replaced Such as bassist. The album produced by Peter Collins, was an overall darker album in contrast to the band's usual brand of feel good, inspiring rock songs and love ballads. At the time of release, the album was a huge commercial hit, particularly in Europe and Japan but failed to impress the audience in the United States. In the UK, the album was particularly notable for producing four Top 10 hit singles. The high sales of the album in Europe warranted a re-issue of the album under the name of These Days Special Edition a year after its original release.

These Days was a huge commercial success, especially in the Asian and European markets. In Japan, the album topped the Oricon chart with sales of 379,000 copies in first week, becoming one of the fastest selling albums by a non-Japanese band in history of the country's chart.[1]

In the UK the album was highly anticipated. It replaced Michael Jackson's album HIStory at number one on the UK Albums Chart and spent four consecutive weeks at #1.[2] The album spawned four Top 10 singles for Bon Jovi in the UK Singles Chart ("This Ain't a Love Song", "Something for the Pain", "Lie to Me", and "These Days") - the band's highest number of UK singles from one album. The album also topped the European Albums Chart for seven weeks and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry certified "These Days" three times platinum, denoting three million shipments within the continent. In 1995, the album was ranked number 2 on Q magazine's list of the Top 50 albums of 1995.[3] In 2006 the album featured in the Classic Rock & Metal Hammer's The 200 Greatest Albums Of The 90's.[4]

In the United States, the album was met with a lukewarm reception. These Days managed only one hit single for the band in United States, with "This Ain't A Love Song" reaching the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. The album debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200, but slipped down the charts very quickly; in all it sold just over one million copies in United States.

In 1995, Bon Jovi was voted 'Best Rock', at the MTV Europe Music Awards and at the BRIT Awards, the band was awarded for the 'Best International Band'.

The album was re-released in Europe on June 1996 in a box package including two discs—the original album and an extra CD which included previously unreleased songs. The set was issued as These Days Special Edition. These Days Special Edition was not listed in the UK charts as a different album than the original These Days, and helped the album to jump from #129 to #11 during the band's European Tour at summer of 1996.

2. "Something for the Pain"
3. "This Ain't a Love Song"

Destination_Anywhere.jpg

released 17 June 1997 (U.S.)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Destination Anywhere is Jon Bon Jovi's second solo album, following his successful 1990 soundtrack Blaze of Glory, from the film Young Guns II. The production is quite different from the classic rock norm that is a staple of past Bon Jovi albums, with drum loops, female backing vocals and Bon Jovi himself singing in a lower register in most of the tracks. Only one of his longtime bandmates, David Bryan, contributed to the album, though Desmond Child, co-writer of hits such as "Livin' on a Prayer", plays the tuba in the song "Ugly" and is also one of the producers.[1]

A short film entitled Destination Anywhere: The Film (also released in 1997) was produced and incorporated music and concepts from the album. The film was released on DVD on April 11, 2005, and contains the film, Destination Anywhere, the EPK for the album, and four promotional videos.

2. "Janie, Don't Take Your Love to Town"

10. "Naked"
11. "Little City"

Re: The official Bon Jovi thread

267816856_a4147e07eb.jpg

Released June 13, 2000

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crush is Bon Jovi's seventh studio album, released on June 13, 2000 through Island/Mercury. It was their first studio album since These Days was released in 1995. The album produced by Luke Ebbin, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora. Crush, which also produced such hits as "It's My Life" and "Thank You For Loving Me", became the band's fifth consecutive UK #1 album, sold eight million copies worldwide, and helped introduce them to a new, younger fan base. Crush was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2001 Grammy Awards.

After the initial plan to team up hard-rock producers Bob Rock and Bruce Fairbairn fell through due to the latter's death, an audition process was set up with alt-rock engineer Luke Ebbin (Splender) winning the job. The choice was a fortuitous one as here Bon Jovi updates its sound with a smattering of loops and impressive arrangements. The working title was "Sex Sells" and posters of this album are seen advertised in and around New York in the "Real Life" music video. Another working title was "One Wild Night"[1]. The name was dropped but later used for the live compilation album the following year.

Crush was mostly well received by critics, but not by a portion of the band's fanbase, who were expecting more of the serious tones explored on the band's 90's albums, although it was the first Bon Jovi album ever to be nominated for a Grammy. In a review for Allmusic, Steve Huey expressed the opinion that Crush was a "solidly crafted mainstream rock record that's much better than most might expect."[2] Rolling Stone gave the album 3 stars out of 5 and described "It's My Life" as "a Britney track shot through the heart with Richie Sambora's voice-box guitar."[3]

Crush became the band's most popular studio album in the United States since Keep the Faith. The album debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200, spent 51 weeks on the chart, and, according to Nielsen Soundscan, it has sold 2,071,000 copies in the U.S as of 2009.

The album topped the European album chart for seven weeks, spent fifteen weeks in the Top 10, and received 2x Platinum certification by the IFPI Europe. The album was #6 on the 2000 Europe Year-End albums chart, #7 on the 2000 CNN WorldBeat albums chart, and sold 8 million copies worldwide. Crush debuted at #1 in UK and became the band's fifth consecutive UK #1 album, but it was the last to go Platinum.

The first single, "It's My Life", is among the most popular recent Bon Jovi singles and was the #3 bestselling single worldwide in 2000. "It's My Life" topped the European singles chart for 4 weeks.

1. "It's My Life"
2. "Say It Isn't So"
3. "Thank You for Loving Me"

Bon_Jovi_One_Wild_Night.jpg

Released May 22, 2001

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One Wild Night Live 1985–2001 is Bon Jovi's only live album, and was released in May 2001. The album includes live covers of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" and The Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays".

The duet of "I Don't Like Mondays" with Bob Geldof was performed at Wembley Stadium just two weeks short of the tenth anniversary of Live Aid, where Geldof performed the same song at the same stadium as part of the Boomtown Rats. He would later perform the same song almost exactly ten years later in London again at Live 8. This 1995 rendition of the song was previously released on a rare special edition 2-CD version of These Days. Several copies of the album misprint the year of the recording as 2000 however the actual year is 1995 when Bon Jovi performed at Wembley Stadium as part of the These Days tour. During the intro to the song, Jon Bon Bovi mistakenlly welcomes Bob Geldof by saying to the crowd "You should be proud to call him your own" despite Geldof being Irish, not English

"One Wild Night 2001" is a remix rather than a live version. The difference between this version and the Crush version is the length; the intro and other sections were cut out. This was a single for this album.

1. "It's My Life"
2. "Livin' on a Prayer"
3. "You Give Love a Bad Name"
4. "Keep the Faith"
5. "Someday I'll Be Saturday Night"
6. "Rockin' in the Free World "
7. "Something to Believe In"
8. "Wanted Dead or Alive"
9. "Runaway"
10. "In and Out of Love"
11. "I Don't Like Mondays" (featuring Bob Geldof)
12. "Just Older"
13. "Something for the Pain"
14. "Bad Medicine"
15. "One Wild Night 2001"
