Great Bands That Would Be Better If They Had A Better Singer

Well...yes you have a point there. I suppose I'm just saying that I prefer Arnel because of his showmanship and because I say him with Journey and not Steve. I do of course respect Steve's voice and his contributions to Journey were essential but Arnel saved Journey upon his departure and breathed new life into their career.

Understandable. But you see what I meant...Bon Scott as opposed to Brian Johnson...opposite ends of the spectrum and managed to both be equally original lead singers.

I'll have to take a closer look at Arnel but from what I heard he is a sound alike to Perry. If not exact...he's pretty darn close.

Rich Little does a great George Burns....but....:heheh:

Well the biggest difference I think there is between the two is that Arnel's voice has a bit more "oof" to it. I think Steve's is prettier but Arnel's has a wee bit more force or power behind it.

OK I'll check it out further...I mean I'm not knocking Arnel (and he is good)...there are ALOT of different singers that I can get spot on with...I mean alot! out of the MP realm of things....I guess I wouldn't say no if Queensryche asked me to take Geoff Tate's position if he left Queensryche for some reason.

Whether the audience bought it or not is another story but I would still be thrilled.

I guess I grew up on Perry and I have to tell ya...back in the day when it was new and fresh (and if you already were listening to Journey prior as a 4 piece or whatever) he was pretty outstanding.

Cosmic, I still have to disagree, especially after watching these videos. More energy with Steve and he is hands down the better showman and singer. The clarity of Steve's high register outmatches Arnel's, and Arnel, who is a good singer, still has a long ways to go before he "surpasses the master." Also, what's missing with Steve is his song writing abilities, and without him I think Journey just isn't as good.

Wow, hearing Steve hitting those high notes at 1:50 and 2:50 gives me goosebumps!!! Amazing!

Judas Priest
I got to give you one of these faces..:wtf: Rob Halford's vocal chemistry is exactly what Judas Priest needs in a frontman..
I just couldn't imagine Judas Priest going as far as they have without him..
And the rest of the band is way up there with talent, it's just perfect with Rob doing vocals..
I would have switched out Axl Rose with Sabastian Bach just to see how things would have went if they had given him the chance..

I gotta agree. Foreigner's new guy sings better than Lou Gramm does these days. Journey's new guy sings better than Steve Perry does these days and of Iron Maiden's three singers, the current one is by far their best one....

Great point and thanks for pointing that out. I knew that Perry was no longer in Journey, but haven't heard the new singer, and for that matter I haven't heard any recent material by these bands. In essence I was referring to the line-ups these bands are best known for.

I'll add the Smashing Pumpkins to my list...Billy Corgan's voice has always sounded very thin, reedy and raspy to me...like he's straining to get the notes out. And his vocal range seems to be only about 2/3 of an octave.

Oh yeah, Supertramp...I hate that guy's voice too.

Well, I wouldn't suggest switching Rob Halford for Axl Rose or Sabastian Bach...all I know Rob Halford vocals killed Judas Priest for me.

I saw them in concert before they were big. Worst concert experience of my life. I ended buying the warm up band's album. (Wireless...a Canadian band, I believe)

Ha ha, what gives?

Iron Maiden's current third singer is not the third singer. Bruce Dickinson came in on the third album The Number Of The Beast wayyyyy back in 1982.

After many years he quit the band and was replaced by Blayze Bailey for two albums.

He then returned in 2000 and been with them since and still kicking butt.

That's why he's sooo good. :cheers2
