So talking with Lord Grendel about songs stuck in your head got me thinking....what are some vivid song memories you have while in....erm....altered states of mind? Meaning hearing that song takes you right back to that place in time and the "altered state"?

I already posted about sitting in my friend's candlelit room, she had some very loud black velvet wallpaper with gold flowers and she painted the Floyd prism on her ceiling. We were spinning Floyd's "Breathe" and chowing on shrooms and I can vividly remember smelling the colors. Somehow hearing it 'straight' (the whole album really) doesn't seem the same.

I also remember being really high on weed and beer, jumping on my friend's trampoline with about 10 other people at 1 in the morning listening to Hotel California. LMAO, every time I hear it takes me right back to that scene.

Hehe, cool thread, it's always nice to go back in the time when you were drunk/high listening to some song and philosophing about stupid things. I remember when I got really really stoned, I could barely walk. Look at this coincidence Buff - me and my friends got reeeally stoned and I don't know who got idea to go to the pub in that state, so we walk off from park where we got high and start walking towards pub - and on my phone I was playing some psychedelic tunes, and while we were walking, "Breathe" kicks in, I was looking at the sky, it was sunset, and I swear I see how cloud deformed within second and formed some mouth, it was like it was talking, really trippy shit.

So we got to the pub, sit there, and I barely could keep my head straight. We were sitting there, drinking some juice to get well and then Hendrix started playing at pub - it was Little Wing. I remember closing my eyes and feeling like I was lifting above my body and spinning in some whirlwind, but when I opened my eyes everything would be okay. I remember how I could barely move my arms and I was so paranoid because I thought I would be paralized for rest of my life. That's the last time I got high so much. I throw up few times, and after 2-3 hours later I could normally speak and do things. Jeeez, never mix too much beer and few doobies.

Oh lordy lordy lord... I could fill this thread a hundred times. Don't worry, I won't! But there are scarce few memories more dear to me than these, and I've got more than I can count...

For example I not five minutes ago got lost watching the Natalie Imbruglia video for Torn and I was right back in January of '07 encased in the bitter cold and smoking ganja with my friend in his fixer-upper house. I guess there's no big story to tell but, boy does that memory mean a lot to me. It was such a heavy night. It really made me feel like a person. See, usually I don't feel like I'm a person. I feel like a mass of nerves floating around doing things. In other words I don't feel that I possess a personality, per se'. But I was smoking weed with this dude in his house and I was thinking the long walk I took to get there, and then there was the drive we took at the end of the night, and it's just like... I definitely felt like a person that night, 'cause of who this guy was, 'cause of where the hell we were, 'cause of how he argued with his gf and the stories he told, and 'cause a' the ****in' weed.

Then there's the first time I did LSD... that one's actually almost a story. We sat around listening to Pink Floyd for a while and then we were supposed to take a very, very simple walk from her house to my house, which is like a block. Done it a million n' ten times. So we try to take this walk, but my house isn't where it's supposed to be. We end up in the middle of a psychedelic suburban jungle with no clue which way is up and which way is down. Among the most sensical highlights, we found a half-ran-over fish lying in the middle of a road and laughed uncontrollably at the notion of a fish trying to cross the road (and how the hell did it even get there?). That was a really heady night too, full of existentialism and foreboding; I was scared we would never find our way back home and this would somehow result in our untimely deaths. Many hours removed, we wound up back at her house and put on some Alice In Chains which always brings me back into that night.

I'm also reminded vividly of that whole summer and all our LSD trips whenever I hear Mr. Bungle or Regina Spektor. We would constantly listen to Bungle in a tent in her backyard and I was constantly singing Regina Spektor's "Chemo Limo" another night when we got lost in a completely different part of town because her brother had driven us there and then went to hang out with his gf.

*sigh*... Drugs should not be a constant in one's life. I'm sober now. But I'd scarcely have lived at all if I'd never tried them. I say there is a time and a place.

Oh gawd, Hendrix and acid, Purple Haze---no kidding, he musta been on it when writing it, eh? LOL I was on the school grounds listening to my Walkman that played *cassette tapes*, now that I've just aged myself. My friend swore there was a swarm of bees overhead even though it was 20 degrees outside and snowing. Never did that sh*t again, really scary.

Me too, done, have been for 20+ years. I don't even drink anymore. When I reflect back, it's a wonder I'm still here. Last time was at CSN concert at Red Rocks and someone was passing a rather large two-handed log down the row. Something not so "right" in it, I got sick to my stomach. I think Wasted On The Way was being played.

snerk, I just thought of another one, Tube Snake Boogie. I was at a rather uptight religious summer camp off-schedule with some friends getting high at the tower. On the way back, my best friend and I were hood surfing, boom box blasting ZZ Top when we spot two girls--sisters--one with a rather racy reputation and the other straight-laced and prude as they come, just as "I know a girl she lives on the hill, she won't do it but her sister will" comes on and I remember we all sang it very loudly and laughed, and the sisters just looked at us like we were nutz. I see that every time I hear that song.

LOL, I just posted Post Toastee on recognizable guitar riffs and it brought me back to Chatuaqua park in Boulder Colorado (my hometown) where Tommy Bolin returned home to roost and play, we *walked* all the way up--prolly 3 miles or so up rather steep BlueBell Mountain to watch the show from overhead, and we were so stoned it's still a wonder how we got up there (and back!) without flattening our faces. But it was such ecstacy, sitting under light stars, watching the deer run below us and hearing Bolin pound out that riff. Ahhhhhhhhhh, I see that same scene everytime I hear it. What fun.
