Does anyone here remember watching MTV back in the early days ('81-'84) when you might be enjoying a normal rock video by Van Halen or .38 Special or Pat Benetar, and all of the sudden the next video seems like it came from another planet? I'm talking about stuff like:
Kraftwerk
Gary Numan
David Bowie (Scary Monsters and earlier)
Devo

I have to admit it, at the time I didn't think it was cool but now I think that stuff KICKS MAJOR ASS!
Any Kraftwerk fans here?

Re: Kraftwerk!

Kraftwerk was an interesting German duo.

They aren't yet a part of my vinyl collection (due to funds) but I've always really admired their highly synthetic style. I love electronic music, or music that seems like it came straight from Mars.

Do you also fancy Telex?

Re: Kraftwerk!

In reply to Wolfsblood, MTV in the 1980s was relatively new in the UK and I didnt get to see it then, but we had a lot of cool weekly music channels that would show stuff like Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Sisters of Mercy etc, etc,

I was a very big Numan fan in the 1980s well it started the end of the 1970s, I wanted to look like him lol, if I can get my hands on an old pic I will have to scan it and get it up on here :D

I loved all that stuff its only as Ive got older that I cant feel nostaligic about it anymore but Garys new stuff is very good. He has certainly evolved with the times.

Its funny, I always wanted to emulate the artist that I was into, first it was Gary Numan and then it was Billy Idol lol.

Weird I guess :D

Thanks for your post anyway :D

Re: Kraftwerk!

Thanks for that Wolfsblood :D They were way before their time and what still makes me smile is the fact they look like 'shop dummies' :D

Re: Kraftwerk!

I will never forget the album I am posting. I had never heard anything like it at the time, not surprising the small town I lived in wasn't in the pipeline to European bands that much especially new Krautrock bands like Kraftwerk.

My older brother was going through a "phase" at this time, so there was always a certain aroma coming out of his room, but when he played this album one day, I knocked on the door and sat down a listened to it,,,without any foreign substances.:D It was like taking a trip without actually leaving the house, totally blew me away.

I think I have 4 of their albums now, and some various MP3's which I don't count...but Autobahn will always be my favorite album.
