I was just a kid when punk hit the scene, so i can`t say I experienced any of the movements, New York or British.
I became familiar with the The Pistols and The Clash in later years., but that`s as far as I went. I enjoyed the aggressiveness, raw anger and energy involved. But for the most part,I found a lot of punk amateurish.
Punk never struck a chord of resonance for me such as other genres, although I did like the punks' style of clothing and hair, or should I say, anti-style. And John Lydon is always a good interview.

I was never a huge fan of the Punk invasion, but The Clash are a magnificent band and are by far my favorite of the entire movement. The Tom Robinson Band was another good punk band, and both are good musically.

I've got less time to listen to Punk than I do to listen to Grunge and for anyone who knows me... that should be saying something.

how did punk affect my life? it made my ears bleed and it still does. one of the most awful "music" genres ever (I put music in quotes on purpose). There are only two redeeming factors in punk. #1) most songs are very short, thankfully. #2) punk did influence some great 80's hard rock bands, so I give punk it's props for that, but that is it.

Otherwise, horrid. To answer the final question in the OP... yes I am repelled by it.

Well it was obviously a while before my time but I was brought up on the punk revival of the 90's brought on us by the world of skate. The Tony hawk skating play station games may have been the single biggest factor in developping my musical taste. Between the punk and nu metal from there and the pop punk of the offspring, greenday and the sought I had an ingrained taste for it all i reckon. So when I first started developping a propper interest in music 2 or 3 years back that was the first place I turned; AFI Zebrahead and Bodyjar all sufficed. Unfourtunately I caught the wrong end of the second coming of punk and am left to appreciate the work of aging punks while we all wait for the third coming

^^I have to agree Fisha, the first Wave of Punk blows the latest incarnation to smithereens...and I will never really think of Green Day as a punk band. They are just a rock band in my opinion, but that is for another thread and another day.(I do like GD as well, but as for nu-metal,,,it is horrid stuff.:))

Actually I didn't pay much attention to it at the time cos all my hatred was directed towards disco.

Here is an album I would recommend to any fan of rock music to check out, although TRB is considered a punk band, the songs and musicianship are first class on this album, you would be hard pressed to know it was anything but rock music, except the subject matter of the songs is about the establishment and politics of the day.

I caught on to punk in the early 80's and I've always loved it. That being said there's always been crap bands trying to ride the punk wave and those bands I despise. But I love the good punk bands, the attitude, everything. Sticking it to The Man has always been a big thing for me :heheh:

Pop-punk does nothing for me though, that's why I think bands like Sum41, Green Day, Offspring etc blow really, really hard.

I don't mind the Offspring Flip, unlike GD they are a definite Punk band...at least to me that is what they sound like.
