A whole 'nother kind of psychedelic music with definite hippie aspects. Sky Saxon of the Seeds was involved with these guys for years after that band disintegrated. This is trippy as hell, and if you are so inclined to imbibe in controlled substances, please do so with caution while listening.

Here's another aspect of Ya ** Wah 13. Not really psychedelic, but quite entertaining for all that.

Ya ** Wah 13 was the musical branch of the California cult known as the Source Family. It's leader, Father Yod, was a charismatic new age mystic who drew people to him in much the same way as Charlie Manson attracted his followers. They were an extremely devoted bunch. Anyway, Father Yod decided he could reach the masses with his message via music and rounded up the more musically inclined members of the group to record. They released SEVERAL records independently, most of which fetch huge sums on eBay. They would get up really early in the morning, do prayers and meditations for several hours, then let the tapes roll with little or no rehearsal. Father Yod himself appears on the earlier efforts, preaching the word over the space jam-like music. It's often unintentionally humorous, but some of what he says actually makes perfect sense. He died while hang gliding over the Pacific ocean. It was the first time he'd ever hang glided.

There's a 13 record box set of material from Ya ** Wah 13's albums called "God and Hair", which you can get at FM SHADES, if you're so inclined. Some of the strangest stuff you're likely to hear. Some crap, too, but hey, it's 13 records...I guarantee it's all interesting, especially if you know much about the Source Family.
