I find Chicago's sound harder and rawer in the 70's, very much due to the time period of honest sounds coming from the band. The 80's songs were good as well but much more slick and commercial sounding for the most part.
Terry Kath played some pretty raw guitar at times in the 70's band and the rythym section was pretty rockin' as well, the horns prettied up the sound some.
I think they deserve to be in the Hall of Fame,Chicago's hits from the 70's are timeless and the 80's ones don't tarnish the rep too much. One thing I can say is that Cetera's voice is amazing overall, he is one of the best singers out there, check out his first solo album from the early 80's....great stuff.

I think Chicago should absolutely be in the hall of fame. I don't care a whole lot about the hall of fame, but I'd like to see some of the bands I think deserve it actually get in...I mean since they seem to be handing out props like candy at a parade.
I'm not gonna start naming names of some of the bands that are already in that pale in comparison to other bands that aren't in, but we all know it's true.

That's actually a great discussion topic. And I'd like to see your lists. But I do remember when someone on the other board did something like that and ALL of the acts he said didn't deserve to belong were black, and ALL the acts that should be in were metal.

As for Chicago, I never enjoyed them that much after the first Chicago Transit Authority album. They were always the pleasant pop music in the background that I'd never feel passionate enough to buy. I remember living in a group house circa 1971 and everyone on the second floor listened to Chicago, Poco and Carole King. Those of us on the first floor were into the Dead, the Stones and the Who. We were all friends, but they were the business majors; we were the freaks. I still think of Chicago as second floor music. :)

They deserve to be in Hall of Fame for "You're the Inspiration" alone...

Shhh, BG !! I don't think they need THAT kind of help ;)

I don't think many Chicago fans are gonna get behind "You're The Inspiration" while making their cases for Chicago's induction.
