Time to clean the dustbunnies out of this thread.:D

For those fans who might want the best songs without buying the studio albums or the various early compilations, I would recommend this 2 CD boxed set. It is by far the most complete compilation album offered, that includes songs from their first album to Audio-Visions which I consider the pinnacle of the Kansas discography. I bought it when it came out, even though I have every Kansas album up to Vinyl Confessions.

This is an epic comp!! :grinthumb

I also agree that Vinyl Confessions is a fantastic recording and one of my early purchases from them back in the day. :grinthumb

Re: Kansas

This comp has found its way on to my wish list, don't know how I will fund all these new cds I want. Probably end up doing a stretch in Wormwood Scrubs. I have been meaning to get into this band and this looks like a good sample of their output.

Re: Kansas

Kerry Livgren has made many great CD's since he left Kansas. Go to his website and check 'em out. Christianity is not what caused Steve Walsh to leave Kansas. The dispute was musical direction. Drummer Phil Ehart siad this in an interview and also said he has been a Christian to whole time he was in Kansas. Peace and goodwill.

Re: Kansas

I know I never said Steve Walsh left the band for any religious reasons, however from what I've read Kerry Livgren did leave the band for numerous reasons including his faith, and Dave Hope followed him. Steve Walsh is still touring with Kansas, although I don't know if Phil, Robbie and Rich are still part of the band.

Re: Kansas

Kansas is Steve Walsh,Phil Ehart,Richard Williams,Steve Ragsdale and Billy Greer. Greer joined in 1986 and Ragsdale in 1991.

Greer has another band called Seventh Key that I highly recommend. Two really good cds.And it looks like another is due this year.

Re: Kansas

I love Kansas, or 70's era Kansas I should say.
I have :
1974 Kansas
1974 Song for America
1975 Masque
1976 Leftoverture
1977 Point of Know Return
1978 Two for the Show
1979 Monolith
1980 Audio-Visions

all on CD some on Vinyl
Device - Voice - Drum DVD

From 1974 through 1979 all their albums are great IMO. Audio-Visions is not quite as good but definitely enjoyable . I don't really see the English
prog copy band thing myself. Kansas incorporates a bluegrass influence into their progressive, hard rock, sound along side the classical and jazz leanings of the Brits. This among of other factors, gives them a very unique sound
they are one my top prog bands if not my very favorite and that is including the lesser know Italian ,Swedish, German etc. scenes ( the UK was far from being the only one with a progressively bent rock movement going on )

I saw them live around 2004 (?) , the band was at that time all the original members, other then Dave Hope ( replaced by Billy Greer ) and Kerry Livgren . They could have used Kerry for sure, but were awesome none the less, with Robby and Steve trading vocal duties, and Rich Williams playing his as usual, mean guitar.

Thanks for the Kerry Livgren videos LG my imagination has been fired and
I will now be on the prowl for Kerry's solo work. I'm also sure to investigate Billy Greer's work now as well.
