ARGENT a UK early 1970s progressive rock band that had a top 5 hit in the UK with HOLD YOUR HEAD UP an album track with a running time of over 6 minutes but an edited version was released on a 45rpm single that made the UK singles charts in 1972. Formed by Rod Argent ex-Zombies who played keyboards and vocals and including Russ Ballard on guitar and vocals. The band was fairly popular during the early 1970s in the UK but had faded from the spotlight by the middle 1970s.

This is nice-
Kicks.
Yeah Ian I read something about Russ about 18 months/2 years ago and mention was made of that guitar that he possibly still plays since the early 1970s and why he had those holes cut out of the body (it may have been to make the guitar a bit lighter but I can't remember why?). Also something was said about why he always wore dark glasses back in the 1970s when he was with Argent cos I think he had had an accident around the end of the 1960s that affected his eyesight so he had to wear dark glasses after that.

MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND were a bit more 'heavy rock orientated' than the previous Manfred Mann band from the 1960s and Manfred Mann's Chapter 3 from 1970 in having several big single hits in the UK during the early/mid 1970s such as Blinded By The Light, Davy's On The Road Again & Joybringer.

Richard Treece, Michael Morley and my fave member of this seemingly forgotten band was Sean Tyla, a great keyboardist who was with The Tyla Gang, Ducks Deluxe.. worked with scores of others including Deke Leonard and I think Joan Jett?
Worthy of a mention here for sure..

Did they become rock band Detective?
Detective...
Featured Michael des Barres, ex-Silverhead front man. Saw that band in Scarborough - proto-punk.
Also included Tony Kaye, ex-Yes on keyboards.

I have both Detective albums on vinyl - they are pretty much Led Zep-lite.
