Very true E-Z, I'd say a huge bulk of my vinyl is 1970-76...and in terms of heavy rock:1970-71.
1976 housed some excellent albums and singles.
I have tons of rare folk, prog, heavy prog and heavy blues rock.... must start digging them out.

Here's a case in point, I picked this up for bugger all, in a bargain bin-. Produced at the time by ex- Monkee Michael Nesmith.
I think this featured on a compilation 'Ones That Got Away'?
Ian Matthews - These Days
( shocked it was on SpewTube!)

I deliberately didn't say 1976 Nai because I don't regard 'Punk' as classic rock. Punk was in a class of it's own so excluding Punk in 1976-77 I would say rocks 'golden age' was probably 1970-1976.
