I think I paid £1.60 for this album from Virgin 2nd hand rack... Still gets major stylus time here... a must purchase for anyone seeking that lost artist.
Link Wray - Tecolote.
( recorded at The Manor Studio.)

I bought a Link Wray combined cd/dvd for £2.49p about 2 years ago of a Link Wray gig with his two young sidemen in north London back in 1996/97 and it is a pretty enjoyable watch with Link stalking the stage giving it plenty of whammy bar shaking and howling feedback on his custom made electric guitar while playing his old 1950s and early 1960s hit singles to a rowdy young crowd with sweat dripping down the walls!!.

"It's what you want rock & roll with BALLS!!."

I re-watched this Link Wray dvd again today and it's rock & roll at it's raw exciting ball shaking best!. Link turns up his Marshalls to 11 then proceeds to soak the sweat drenched audience in howling whammy bar feedback while stalking the low stage performing his old late 1950s & early 1960s 'hits' and helped in his task by a bare chested 'Beatles mop top' bass player who's playing a Paul McCartney Hofner bass up and down the neck and a long haired drummer who's playing 'all over his kit' and who is a show of his own!!. Filmed at The Garage music venue at Highbury Corner in north London and in Manchester during 1996.

Rock & Roll how it should be played WITH BALLS!!!.

Nice one E-Z.... I regret that I never got to see the Link, I have many white label Link Wray singles, on Polydor and Virgin... Shop on Hereford Rd. Was my fave haunt for those, got a 12" that plays on 78rpm..The Fool, I think... Link Wray French imports were expensive to buy. Maybe it's on YouTube, I have a mono album from 1971 - on Union Pacific label... boy it is loud!
Richard Gotteherer from Private Stock records knew he was a diamond in the rough... I wonder was he difficult to deal with? ... or only did 1or 2 record contracts?
I have him on Philips, Swan, Liberty, Virgin, Charisma, Venue, Polydor and Union.... and Chiswick!

I read some cd sleeve notes about Link and it appears he was a typical 'rock & roll musician full of contradictions' that we have come to expect from our rock hero's. Apparently he could be sweet and charming to some and also a awkward customer to others no doubt fuelled in part in being 'turned over' by record companies and in non-payment of monies he believed he was owed. Apparently in his later years his second (or third?) wife became his manager which by all accounts wasn't always to Links benefit.

Shit! ... imagine that? no groupies and the old lady keeps the swag.
I think it was like that Nai in his last couple of decades before his death in 2005 because 'the wife' looked a mean looking b***h from watching the dvd where she makes a couple of non-speaking scenes but keeps a close eye on the proceedings during the interview segments.

I heard he was living in Denmark or Sweden for a spell and attempted to scrape the bread together to go see him.... that didn't materialise, and like you say he passed... and virtually unannounced by the fake news purveyors.
