Randy Rhoads vs. Eddie Van Halen

Eddie Van Halen although Randy was great too. However it's well known that when a performer dies (especially young and tragically like Randy) their legend increases, so I take Randy's reputation with a pinch of salt. Rhoads was a great player with a ferocious tone, but Eddie's playing just...

Do you have one top favourite music act?

I know that some people have a favourite act. They might like other acts of course, but one music act will hold a special place in their music appreciation.

Beautiful and epic slow song. I thought the singers voice was good, but a little bit cliched though. 9/10

The intro is cool but the rest of the song is too harsh and noisy, lacking good hooks for my taste. Aerosmith are one of my favourite bands but of their classic era this song has never been a favourite. They were better when doing boogie stuff like Same Old Song And Dance and Mama Kin. 5/10

Musically not bad, but it's too close to cloying 80s pop ballads for my taste. The Scorpions did better ballads than that. When The Smoke Is Going Down for example shows their ballad writing skills at their best. 6/ 10

Best artists to start into the blues?

Charlie Patton if you want some of the most absolute bare bones blues stuff. He is often called the father of delta blues. The sound quality of his recordings is atrocious but that in a way is the gritty appeal. I like to imagine myself back in the 30s checking into some cheap hotel in the South...

    Your Top 10 Classical Composers

My top 2 composers are Beethoven and JS Bach. Really, they are almost interchangable depending on what mood I'm in. I also like Haydn. Poor Joe doesn't get as much recognition as he should these days. He's barely a millimeter behind Mozart in talent. Mozart William Byrd (highly underrated...

    Thread Closed Best Cover Songs

Introspective Joni Mitcell tune becomes high energy rocker Although Queen are best known for "pomp rock" in the 70s they weren't too bad at some straight ahead 50s rock & roll covers too Eilart Pilarm, Swedens premier Elvis impersonator does a mean Jailhouse Rock too. Obscure Maiden B...

    "Progressive" Maiden/Metallica

Somewhere in Time although Seventh Son is easily more progressive. It's basically a concept album. And Justice For All does have a cooler album cover though I admit. BTW did you know that the long white ribbon on the bottom of SIT actually spells out "This is a very boring painting" backwards...

Album knockout from 1966: Pet Sounds or Revolver?

I've actually wondered that ever since I bought most of Led Zeppelin albums to understand the appeal. I still don't understand what the big deal is. Revolver for me. although it's not really an album I feel like listening to much these days. Pet Sounds is good, but to me it's really a...

How were some classic rock acts viewed when you were growing up?

As much as we like to think we base our judgement on music acts solely on the music itself there isn't any doubt that music acts will have fluctuating degrees of "cool" associated with them, depending on location and time period. I can only speak from experience- don't we all? But for example...
