I was a late night DJ playing all of this stuff in 1984. Thanks for the fun question and all 20 are worthy choices!
These were the six I enjoyed the most - as you can tell, I leaned a little more towards melodic pop metal :)
Dokken - Tooth and Nail
Krokus - The Blitz
Queensryche - The Warning...
The first rock band that caught my attention. And, a lot of that was the uniqueness of Ray's flute. Quite a sad day. I actually have tix to see the band Friday in Orlando... Here's a little tribute I wrote: http://rarasfarm.com/2018/rip-veteran-cosmic-rocker/
I still remember Coda which was a mediocre collection of previously unreleased tracks. I think I'd prefer to remember the eight original studio albums...
Loved his 2015 release with The Night Sweats - hell of an album. I reviewed it on my blog and shared this: "(it's) unique compared to anything else on today’s airwaves, but a comfortable old companion for those of us who remember the wonderful times when rock and soul were paired so magically."...
The Troy Bank venue sounds fantastic, unfortunately, nothing on their current schedule seems all that appealing.
Also quite jealous that you caught U2 and a few of those other acts in a small venue. Priceless moments I'm sure.
I've been to some cool Stadiums (Croke Park and JFK, for instance) but I love the vibe of a smaller venue. I've been to many on the East Coast that were pretty cool, but the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. was always my favorite.
Speed King- this fan vote has no impact on who actually is voted in. I totally agree with you, though - The Moody Blues should have been in a decade ago, and Judas Priest not long afterward. All that being said, Bon Jovi would have been on my ballot of five...
Here's my summary of who should...
Frank Turner - Tapedeck Heart (2013) - Turner went for a hard punk frontman with Million Dead into one heck of a songwriter. The lyrics are poignant, the rock is fresh, and a few of the songs are pure genius ("Four Simple Words," "Recovery").
She Sells Sanctuary and Rain. I loved Love! Has anyone else seen them live? Thoughts? I've seen them a few times and some shows were great and others not so good...
