Does anyone here remember the excellent Glass Harp? They were a progressive rock group from Youngstown, Ohio that got very good reviews and very little album sales or airplay. It's a shame that they aren't better known although the lead guitarist, Phil Keaggy, is generally acknowledged as one of the better guitarists still working today. He's very active in the Christian music scene. A few years ago they reunited for a few shows around here (Youngstown is only 20 miles from where I live), and they sold out. Tickets were very hard to come by. Glass Harp, at least around here, is still remembered very fondly. The local Classic Rock station in Youngstown, Y-103, actually started playing some of their music and now you can hear them pretty regularly. Long overdue.

Here's a link to the Wiki article about them:

Discography:
  • Glass Harp 1970
  • Synergy 1971
  • It Makes Me Glad 1972
  • Song in the Air (compilation) 1977
  • Live at Carnegie Hall 1997
  • Strings Attached 2001
  • Hourglass 2003
  • Stark Raving Jams 2004
  • Live at the Beachland Ballroom 11/01/08 2010

And a few videos:

Not bad....I have found "Glass Harp" and will give my opinion once I listen to the entire album. :) I never heard of this group before, which is strange since I am from Ohio, too.

What do you think of "Hourglass"? I might get that album, too.

First time I've heard of them myself, but seeing I'm not from Ohio that's not surprising.

Nice thread RE, I'll snoop around and see what's available.

Haven't heard Hourglass yet. I actually don't have any of their CDs right now but am going to order all three original albums, probably today. My older cousins were in the music scene around Youngstown and keep telling me that if I get the chance to get their stuff, do it. I was at another cousin's house this weekend and he played the 1st album while we had a few beers. Great stuff! So now I'm going to get them all.:D

Anyway, thanks for giving Glass Harp a listen. I think they deserved better.

Thanks, LG. That 2nd link I provided is their official site and seems to have everything that's available. There were only 3 albums before Phil Keaggy left the group to go Christian. But like I said, they get together occasionally and the shows are very well received.

Listening to Glass Harp at the moment. Very mellow and chill……love the ethereal tone of this album. Outstanding guitar work. Highly underrated…
