Has anyone heard of him? He plays electric blues......and plays some pretty redical blues-rock. His music is varied from ZZ Top style boogie to Buddy Guy and Freddie King. He has covered quite a few artists, even Motorhead.
Gah, my browser at my post.... I don't feel like retyping it out right now.
Anyway, I only had one Popa Chubby album: Booty and the Beast from
back in the mid 90's. Good album. I ended up having lost it due to being
stolen at a gig. I just never replaced it or got anything else from him.
The radio hit off that album, at least around these parts was Sweet
Goddess of Love and Beer. Good tune!
Here's a live version of that tune from a few yrs back:
my nephew saw him in a out of the way road house in the atlanta area. about 4 years ago. and said the his brooklyn accent really stood out in this place out in the sticks. he and the audience really warmed up to each other. and said he did a mind blowing version of jimi's (the wind cries mary). i remember a song called "sweet goddess of love and beer". but for the most part. not that familure with him.
He gets played every Sunday in the local redneck bar ....most bars around these parts have a jukebox stuffed with country ....not the Outpost in Eureka ...its a haven for blues and rock ... Chubby is a favourite ...Sweet Godess of Love and Beer is a great tune ....
Popa Chubby is great!! Over my many visits to Physical Therapy over the past 12 years I got to know the Physical Therapists pretty good. A couple of them were music freaks so I got along great with them. One of them is very heavy into the blues & he would always let me listen to his Ipod(this was a few years ago before I owned one) or else he'd bring over his mini DVD Player with his music DVD's. Anyway...He turned me onto Popa Chubby's music & told me about his live shows so I went out & picked up 'One Million Broken Guitars' & 'The Good The Bad & the Chubby'. Both albums are great!!!
