Re: Queen ~ February 2010 Band of the Month

My top 5 Queen Albums:

1. Queen II
2. A Night at the Opera
3. Sheer Heart Attack
4. A Day at the Races
5. Queen I

i've come late to the party, and i'll doubt i'll ever catch up on all of these, but i hafta join in on the queen. and here is the place.

yer top five looks almost exactly like mine. mine:

queen II
a night at the opera
sheer heart attack
queen I
a day at the races

with news of the world just behind.

i've said this many times before (probably here, but who knows how long ago that was)... i think queen had one of the most impressive consecutive album runs in rock history. they didn't lose me til jazz, but frankly, they lost me pretty hard. while i loved the odd song here and there, no album enthralled me like the earlier ones.

my closest brother turned me onto queen when i was in middle school. my old vinyl is mangled, scratched, warped, the sleeves and covers torn to shreds... but i can't part with em. siiiiiigh. they were an integral part of my musical background.

nobody has ever or will ever sound like them.

I liked the Jazz album, but that is where Queen lost my attention, too. Although, there last album, Made in Heaven, is my all time favorite. I guess it is because it was Freddie's last, and the album is so moving...:wa:

From what I hear there are rumors in Hollywood about there being a Freddie Mercury movie being written with Brian May and Robert De Niro on board. I dunno if that's just a rumor or anything since I've not seen any concrete evidence yet but if The Runaways' and Iggy Pop's movies do well then I could see this getting put on the fast track.

Also I just heard of Queen getting their own Rock Band game in Lego form, which I thought was kind of funny and really adorable after seen the pics. ^.^

i need to be fair. i liked *half* of jazz. what i really mean to say: jazz, for me, was the first queen album that didn't kick ass as an entire album. but i guess no band can keep up that kind of incredible steam indefinitely. hell, few even come close to having a few consecutive kickass albums.

Well.....my guess is that since Brain and Freddie are the most identifiable members they only really had to work on them the most.

Now I'll agree that Queen's 70's released are the best of their work (with the exception of their last two, "Innuendo" and "Made In Heaven". Those rank highly for me) but I still find the rest of their catalog to be very good, especially since Queen was able to adapt to the times to stay on top of the world for as long as they did.
If I had to sum something up though I'd do it like this: 70's Queen > 90's Queen > 80's Queen. That's the simplest way to put it and if Queen had released more than two albums in the 90's then that might've trumped much of their 70's work to me.
