Muse are an English alternative rock band from Devon, England. Since their inception, the band has comprised Matthew Bellamy (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Christopher Wolstenholme (bass, backing vocals), and Dominic Howard (drums and percussion). Muse are known for their energetic and extravagant live performances and their fusion of many music genres, including progressive rock, classical music and electronica.

Let's try something new! I write a review for the first album and start this thread.. All of you are free to add a review for the second album. Once that is done, feel free to write one for the third and so on.
If you feel like writing all of them: go ahead.
:grinthumb

Always pick 2 songs from the album and describe the general feeling of the album! Like I will...

Showbiz
showbiz-muse.jpg

Although Showbiz was a minor commercial success, reaching number 29 on the UK Albums Chart, it is a great first album and a great start for a band.

Tracks:
1. "Sunburn" – 3:54
2. "Muscle Museum" – 4:23
3. "Fillip" – 4:01
4. "Falling Down" – 4:33
5. "Cave" – 4:46
6. "Showbiz" – 5:16
7. "Unintended" – 3:57
8. "Uno" – 3:37
9. "Sober" – 4:04
10. "Escape" – 3:31
11. "Overdue" – 2:26
12. "Hate This and I'll Love You" – 5:09

Here's cave for you:

I love this song, it has a great feeling to it, relaxing and yet very energetic. And nice lyrics. It's a pretty good representation of the whole album if you ask me...

And this is the opening song!

Which won't contradict the following:
This album is a statement of the soft style muse often uses in their songs. A part about muse I really like.

:) Again: feel free to add the next album review but let's maintain a chronological order!

I do like Muse, not had the chance to see them yet but they are getting a bit tame now, their early stuff was much better, not sure about the new album yet.

I don't like the new album.. But many ppl will disagree... On the other side, Black Holes And Revelations is in my opinion their best... And that one came just before the resistance.

I agree, the new album seems to have gone off course, I am sure they will come back with another good album but there is some stiff competition out there.

Re: Muse, the official thread !

My only quarrel with their new album is that Matt Bellamy's vocals are lacking compared to previous albums IMO. I still love the instrumental side of things.

Anyway, Muse are a great band, one of my favourites and my second most listened to. I have all their albums, and would be happy to do a review of Absolution (my favourite) once the time comes :grinthumb

I absolutely love this band. They are fantastic live - they blew me away! If I were gifted at writing reviews I'd love to do one for Origin of Symmetry or Black Holes and Revelations as they are my two favourites, but I'm beyond rubbish and could not do them justice!

I first became a fan in '99 after hearing Showbiz, I just fell in love with Matthew's voice, loving falsetto voices, and the title track from Showbiz, the end of that track...well, it took me to another plane somewhere (still does!), and from then on I was hooked :)

Matthew Bellamy never fails to impress me with his vocal gymnastics and is just genius on the guitar and piano. :)

Matthew aged 12 on piano:

And shout out too to Chris Wolstenholme - check out the phenomenal bass intro on Hysteria:

I have to admit The Resistance is my least favourite album, but with regards to going tame I think they just wanted to try something new - they have never been a band who are afraid to experiment. I'm sure their next will be totally different again!

Re: Muse, the official thread !

First of all Tray you are not rubbish at all, I would like to see you do an album review for your favorite band. All of us have different ways of approaching that, and I haven't done any in here as yet myself...

So if you do one for Muse, I'll do one for a band I really like...sounds fair to me.

OB introduced me to Muse well over a year ago, I have skimmed over them and am no expert, but I do like this band. I will have to play them some more so I can keep up in here with you experts.;)
