This guy... DB has long remained an underground favorite of mine. Two of his
first solo lps were some of the best music that meant something of the 89-94
years. Yeah, he's a bit like lovable T-Bone Burnette in that he can be dogmatic,
a bit preachy, but here his field of vision is so crystal clear and inventive.
Short-lived David and David, a terrific pop burner duo of the mid 80's was
his biggest claim to fame. His first solo lp was the best I heard that year.
His 2nd solo, Triage, was pitchfork, flute, drums and tattered flag... packing
heat and filling sandbags for the volcano-hot Armageddish Revolution.
Cinematic in scope, listening to it was like watching a horror movie of a
different kind, and you dare not take your ear off the spin. This one is
more laid back, but still terrific. Baerwald leading the charge for another
cause, the new folk underground. He reminds me of the millennium's
new Alex Chilton... somebody had to take the torch.
