Dee Snider to Premiere Christmas Musical in 2014

Dee-Snider-Ethan-Miller.jpg

Chicago’s theater scene will get a dose of heavy rock ‘n’ roll next year, when ‘Dee Snider‘s Rock & Roll Christmas Tale’ will premiere at the Broadway Playhouse during the 2014 holiday season.

Broadway World reports that the musical comedy, written by Snider and directed by Adam John Hunter, centers around Daisy Cutter, a past-its-prime metal band that tries to sell its collective soul to the devil to achieve the fame that has eluded them its entire career. However, their attempts repeatedly backfire, and their rebellious songs turn into carols.

Snider will soon release a version of ‘Silent Night’ from the show. The song will be a duet between Snider and the E! network’s Giuliana Rancic. Proceeds from the digital sales of the single benefit Rancic’s Fab-U-Wish charity, which grants wishes to women who are in treatment for breast and ovarian cancer.

The project is a combination of sorts of Snider’s last two studio albums. In 2006, Twisted Sister released ‘A Twisted Christmas,’ which recast popular holiday songs in the style of metal classics; in 2012, Snider put out ‘Dee Does Broadway,’ a collection of show tunes. Snider also appeared on Broadway in the ’80s-themed jukebox musical ‘Rock of Ages.’

‘Dee Snider’s Rock & Roll Christmas Tale’ is scheduled to run from Nov. 4, 2014, through Jan. 4, 2015.

Twisted Sister was one of the first bands I absolutely worshipped and I still consider them and Dee among my absolute favourite metal bands/artists.

There's lots of Twisted Sister and Dee Snider stuff going on these days.

Back in March, a documentary called "We are Twisted F***ing Sister!" was released. If you're a fan of the band, it's a must-see!

Earlier this month the band released a new live CD/DVD/Blu-ray with the first show they performed after the March 2015 death of founding drummer A.J. Pero. Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater) played the drums for them at that show. Obviously a must-have for fans!

In October, Dee will release a new solo album called "We Are The Ones".

Some album info from Blabbermouth:

Dee's vibrant new solo album, "We Are The Ones", is due out in October on Red River Records (distributed by BFD/RED). Produced by Grammy-, Emmy- and Oscar-winning songwriter Damon Ranger, "We Are The Ones" crackles with modern energy, from the call-to-arms manifesto of "Rule The World", to the anthemic bonding of "So What" (complete with, yes, a string section) to the intensely synth-driven "Close To You", to the thematically soaring "Superhero" (a song tailor-made for running over the end credits of the next Marvel or DC movie blockbuster if ever there was one). Another significant highlight of the album is a newly re-recorded acoustic version of "We're Not Gonna Take It" which has also been tapped the official anthem for The Recording Academy's advocacy efforts, including the "Fair Play Fair Pay" act. Recently performed in Washington D.C. at the annual Grammys On The Hill event, a video of the song premiered earlier today on Entertainment Weekly's web site and can now be viewed below.

Totally blown away by the acoustic version of “We’re Not Gonna Take It”. Unfortunately the video version is just 1:49, but the full version (3:52) is available on iTunes and of course on Dee's solo album in October, which I'll wait for.

I've got both new releases & both are phenomenal...I've been a huge fan since seeing them in the clubs w/ Queensryche opening in 1982/83. The We are Twisted ****** Sister DVD is great even if your not a fan of TS but a fan of Rock & Roll just to see how hard they worked on the local scene

Twisted Sister is very important name for me as a music fan. They've never been out of my music players since I was caught by them in the mid 80's.
You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll and Stay Hungry are definitely among the top 100 albums released in the rich time of the eighties.
Under the Blade and Come Out and Play are also very good. As for their 1987 release, it didn't reach me.

I can easily list 20 even more classic cult tunes by them but here are my top 10:

1. The Beast (Stay Hungry)
2. Like a Knife in the Back (You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll)
3. You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll (You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll)
4. Ride to Live, Live to Ride (You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll)
5. What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You) (Under the Blade)
6. Burn in Hell (Stay Hungry)
7. I've Had Enough (You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll)
8. Shoot 'Em Down (Under the Blade)
9. Don't Let Me Down (Stay Hungry)
10. The Kids Are Back (You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll)

During the hard music times of the 90's, TS somehow disappeared and when they've been announced as headliners of the just founded Kavarna Rock Fest 2006 in the seaside town around here, I was one of the first buying ticket. What a gig! (Helloween were the openers).

Of those years, I really recommend their DVD Live at the Astoria 2008.

In 2015, a few months after the sad death of AJ Pero, TS were again in Kavarna (with Mike Portnoy on the drums) and this concert was spectacular. Dee Snider in top form as always.

Here is the poster of 2015:
