OK.. Just a thread for nothing but METAL..
I'm on the hunt for some good METAL.. I'm more into 80's METAL.. But I'm open to some good groups out there that could compare..
The sub Genres of METAL I'm sure will get some mention..
But let's see how it goes..
I'll post a favorite Sludge Metal band I really like..

Black_Label_Society_2.jpg

Ozzy's Axeman Zakk Wylde is the man behind BLS..
A talented Shredder. Somebody who get's sweeped under the carpet most of the time but deserves more than that..
So here we go.. A thread not about "Alternative".. Not about "Prog".. But straight up hard Rock and the bands that make it happen..
Here's a taste of Black Label Society to kick off this thread..

Re: Time For Some METAL

Thumper... let me help you out here...

:cheers::heheh:

I have always like late 70s early 80s, classic metal best, I don't really listen to it a lot, but every once in a while if I need something with some drive I'll throw on some Ozzy, Saxon, Priest, stuff along those lines, I did have a big hair metal phase though, saw Poison and Ratt... 7 bucks for a ticket and I guess not a bad show

love the guitar tone in Devil Child

If you are looking for something new, check out Mastodon. They are a progressive/sludge metal band.

Their album "Crack the Skye" was one of my favorites of last year:

It is a really unique concept idea about a time traveler...

Here are a couple tracks:
"Divinations"

"Crack the SKye"

This is also a phenomenal album (and as you can see like ever good metal band they have some cool cover art!):

^^I agree with you Bobby, I was really impressed when I played Mastodon for the first time, and those two albums would be a great addition to anyone's collection.

I listened to "Divinations" anyone else thing Brian Johnson would do a great job singing for them?

I can not stand the growling, screaming, squeeling, screeching vocals of a lot of these newer metal bands, it all just goes right through my head... if they would just "sing" I might even like some of the newer bands, I'll even use Mastadon as my example, he can obviously hit the notes, and I'd enjoy if he'd just sing and not scream/growl... I guess it's just not my thing, but that is one of those things I can not fathom anybody enjoying.... then again I like Jim Magrum's(BOA) voice, so I guess it will always just be one of those things:tongue:

Mastodon is one of the only bands that does a little of that style of vocals that I don't mind, otherwise I agree with you EB.

You know I used to have two BOA albums on vinyl, then I found a live CD and a greatest hits compilation, and I just can't get into Jim Dandy Mangrum's vocals now. He has a decent voice but almost sounds like he's being Strangled when he sings to me.

look at his videos, you've seen them tight pants he wore, hes up there with Cassidy for tightest pants competition, so I think in a way Jim dandy was being strangled as he sang:heheh:
I like how weird it is, mostly, I guess lol, I'll admit there's a handful of songs that the rasp is too much and I won't listen to them

^^I was looking for a particular album of BOA's that I really liked,,,then when I found some of their stuff, I couldn't for the life of me remember the title of the record...it was so long ago...damn getting old sucks.:bonk:

:lmao:

Still if I had one BOA album to recommend it would be Raunch & Roll, they are best served Live!.:grinthumb
