What songs should be played on the radio from a certain band instead of the ones that are played instead because they were #1 hits or whatever?

For me, I can't stand hearing "Kiss On My List" by Hall and Oates over and over again on my radio. Those guys had a few #1s, but for some reason that song is the only one they like to play.

I'd much rather hear "Maneater" or "Rich Girl" which were also #1 hits, but you rarely hear them over the airwaves.

And only once in a blue moon will they put on "Say It Isn't So" or "Sara Smile". Those are top 5 songs, but because they didn't go to the top of the charts, apparently the idiot marketing people think no one wants to hear them. However, they are much better songs than the cheesy "Kiss On My List" which sounds very dated now.

'Tallyman' by Jeff Beck, as opposed to 'Hi ** Silver Lining'. Both good songs, but I have never once heard 'Tallyman' on the radio even though it was a moderate hit.

'Ballad of John And Yoko' by The Beatles is also pretty rare on the radio where I'm from- in fact, most of their late period isn't played, largely because I suppose the early 1964-66 period is more radio- friendly.

America - Tin Man

America's "Daisy Jane" is one I'd like to hear more on radio. Others include:

"Free Man In Paris" Joni Mitchell
"Beware Of Darkness" George Harrison
"It's A Laugh" Hall and Oates
"Action" The Sweet
"Big Eyes" Cheap Trick
"Yours Is No Disgrace" Yes
"A Salty Dog" Procol Harum
"Love In The City" The Turtles
"Six O' Clock" The Lovin' Spoonful
"Muscle Of Love" Alice Cooper
"Nathan Jones" The Supremes
"Around The Plynth" The Faces
"Just Seventeen" Paul Revere and The Raiders
"Blondes Have More Fun" Rod Stewart
"It's Over" Roy Orbison
"Silly Girl" The Rascals

Just to name a few.

I have never heard a Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath song on the radio.

In my area, Paranoid and occasionally Iron Man are played. For Zep, it's four or five regular songs, with All Of My Love played waaaaay more than merited. A long list of great Zep songs, all better than All Of My Love, could be made that are rarely or never played on the radio.

How is this possible? I hear Zeppelin every week, although like JimJam said, it's the same 4-5 songs every time.

I can't find a hard rock station around here. I have a "classic rock" one but half of it is just 80s pop. I heard Dream On by Aerosmith once and We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister once. Other than that, never heard a hard rock song on the radio. I need to find a hard rock station!

In the UK Led Zeppelin actually don't get much airplay, in part because there just isn't much in the way of classic rock radio - I am aware of Planet Rock but not a lot else. The same is even more true for Pink Floyd, I once read an article from an American who did not like them and hated the amount of airplay they received but consoled themselves in the knowledge that it would have been much worse in the UK, when in actual fact only a handful of Pink Floyd songs seem to get played at all, mainly from Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and The Wall (FWIW the main ones in my experience are Money, WYWH's title track, Another Brick Part 2 and Comfortably Numb).

To pick another of my favourites, I think there are a number of Dire Straits songs that deserve more airplay than Walk Of Life (which I actually consider one of their least impressive songs and although I enjoy it occasionally I find it gets old if I overplay it). To my mind there is no good reason why songs like Down To The Waterline, Solid Rock and Single Handed Sailor shouldn't be played instead, which I think are much better musically and lyrically than Walk Of Life.
