I went along to see Tina Turner, at a friends request, in Birmingham, UK '87. Robert Cray was the support, blew me away and I have been a fan ever since.

I saw Robert Cray with Stevie Ray Vaughan one time at an outdoor show in Mansfield, MA. Man, it was a helluva night. Always been a fan, but I think sometimes his voice is too pretty for blues.

I get that totally when comparing him to other blues artists. I do think he's perfect for having on in the bckground when I'm having a chilled night and wanting something smooth.

I remember when he was being hyped as 'the next big thing' in blues back in the mid 1980s after releasing possibly the Strong Persuader album back in 1986 anyway I tried to get into some of his stuff the albums False Accusations & Strong Persuader but found them both to smooth and polished for my liking and I believe I read not to long ago that he considers himself as a soul/blues musician which probably says a lot for his style of blues. One phrase that I always associate with Robert Cray is 'Yuppie blues' which I read from a concert review when he played in the UK back in the mid 1980s when the word 'Yuppie' was in vogue back then.
