I don't feel like explaining the band myself, so I'll let someone else do it:

Out of all the bands that emerged in the immediate aftermath of punk rock in the late '70s, few were as enduring and popular as the Cure. Led through numerous incarnations by guitarist/vocalist Robert Smith (born April 21, 1959), the band became notorious for its slow, gloomy dirges and Smith's ghoulish appearance, a public image that often hid the diversity of the Cure's music. At the outset, the Cure played jagged, edgy pop songs before slowly evolving into a more textured outfit. As one of the bands that laid the seeds for goth rock, the group created towering layers of guitars and synthesizers, but by the time goth caught on in the mid-'80s, the Cure had moved away from the genre. By the end of the '80s, the band had crossed over into the mainstream not only in its native England, but also in the United States and in various parts of Europe. The Cure remained a popular concert draw and reliable record-seller rhroughout the '90s, and their influence could be heard clearly on scores of new bands during the new millenium, including many that had little to do with goth.

But I will put in a few of my favourite vids, as is customary :D

Even now, they can still kick it!

Re: The Cure!

Very nice Sal.

I was never a huge fan of theirs, but I laughed my ass off when South Park did an episode where the lead singer of The Cure, came to town to take care of MechaStreisand...:heheh:

I'll give them another spin though to be fair.

Any album that is their absolute best, any recommendations would be helpful?

Re: The Cure!

I think this will be the song that defines The Cure for me and seemingly for a lot of others seeing how much it's been covered!

Re: The Cure!

LG I recommend two albums, Wish, (which the above two songs are on, among other greats) and Disintegration, their most critically acclaimed piece. Either that or a compilation :grinthumb

P.S: I had this song stuck in my head all day (in a good way):

And finally, xkcd produced for us this gem:

Oh, I remembered another awesome Cure song! This ones of the sountrack to my favorite movie, The Crow! In fact, I think The Cure was quoted to be one of the main bands that inspired the writer of The Crow comic! :grinthumb

Re: The Cure!

Mmm. I love these guys.

The first album I ever heard of theirs was "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me". The title track is just great, too. Something to me was always so nice, about Robert Smith wailing "get your ****ing voice out of my head". Maybe it was just my age at the time, I don't know.

I love the moodiness of their music. They're like the Smiths meets U2.

Re: The Cure!

Love the Cure - started off (as most others perhaps...) with Kiss Mex3. Then on to The Wish. And Disintegration. I haven't gotten around to Bloodflower yet but it's supposed to be up there too. And of course On The Beach is classic as well...
