For anyone who has not heard them they are an English two-piece featuring drums bass and vocals. They have only been together a little more than a year. Jimmy Page is now heaping praise on them -

Led Zep hero says two-piece have taken rock "up a few notches"

Jimmy Page has praised Royal Blood for taking the rock genre "up a few notches."

The Led Zeppelin guitarist is a fan of the English two-piece and says he was blown away by their energy when he saw them perform in New York earlier this year.

Page tells the NME: "I went to hear them in New York. They were fantastic. Absolutely riveting. They're such fine musicians. It's music of tremendous quality.

"However long the set was, I could have heard twice as much. Their album has taken the genre up a serious few notches. It's so refreshing to hear, because they play with the spirit of the things that have preceded them, but you can hear they're going to take rock into a new realm – if they're not already doing that."

Royal Blood – singer/bassist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher – released their self-titled debut album in August.

Their album and gigs have made them the year's most talked-about band... It’s been a hell of a 12-month for the Brighton duo.

On the evening of September 30, 2014, Royal Blood’s Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher had their conversation interrupted by a knock on the door of their dressing room in San Francisco’s Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium. Outside stood Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich.

Invited into the room, he introduced himself as a fan of Royal Blood’s debut album, and spoke enthusiastically with the two twenty-somethings from West Sussex about his latest musical discoveries, probing both for further recommendations. He then asked the English pair for their impressions of his adopted home town.

“We haven’t really had the chance to see much of it,” admitted Kerr.

“Let’s change that,” said Ulrich, holding up his car keys. “Let’s go.”

As Ulrich’s car sped across the Golden Gate Bridge, Kerr and Thatcher sank back into the leather upholstery and exchanged disbelieving smiles. By any given standard, 2014 was proving to be a most remarkable year.

I don't hear anything special about them. Nothing stands out about those songs I just listened to.

Johnny.....I think Tray has already done a thread for this band

Indeed! I've merged the two threads.

As for the band/music, there seems to be a buzz around them and I've been meaning to check them out. I'm kind of on the fence, at least concerning the big buzz and Jimi Page's statement. "Figure it Out" is a great track, definitely the kind of song that temps me to get the album; "Little Monster" was good, nothing more, nothing less. I don't think there's anything in there that takes rock up a few notches, because as good as it may be, there's nothing new about it.
