Lanier Greig was replaced by Billy Etheridge, who would later bt replaced by Dusty Hill.
Billy Etheridge was a buddy of Jimmie Vaughn's (SRV's bro)....I remember that name.

Actually ZZ Top did have some line-up changes. The original line-up way Billy F. Gibbons, Lanier Greig & Dan Mitchell. Lanier Greig was replaced by Billy Etheridge, who would later bt replaced by Dusty Hill. Dan Mitchell would be replaced by Frank Beard. Now the line-up of Billy, Dusty & Frank are the only ZZ Top line-up to have recorded a full legnth album together as Billy, Lanier & Dan only recorded some singles together.
Still haven't got a copy of La Futura...I want to listen to it first before buying it. If it's like Eliminator then I'll pass, if it's like Tres Hombres/Tejas/Deguello then I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I didn't realize that either, I just assumed the original line-up was Billy, Dusty and Frank.

I think you might like it. Plenty of that album reminded me of their classic blues sound. I didn't think of it along the lines of Eliminator.
I like Eliminator, but Afterburner was not nearly as good and after that I stopped following the band.
Speaking of classic albums, I played Tejas last night(my vinyl record) and will never cease to be impressed with that album. I'm not a guitarist but from the little I've read about it Tejas was Billy Gibbons tribute to the Les Paul sound of an electric guitar.
Deguello and Tejas and Tres Hombres are my essential ZZ Top albums all three are excellent.
