Since I brought them up in a conversation moments ago..thought I would start a thread and contribute some more to our new Sub Forum. I LOVE their orchestration and cinematic quality.

Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian black metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1993. Dimmu borgir means "dark castle" or "dark fortresses" in Icelandic and Old Norse. The name is derived from a volcanic formation in Iceland, Dimmuborgir. The band has been through numerous line-up changes over the years, with guitarist Silenoz and Vocalist Shagrath being the only founding members left.

I don't know about the music but I like the Band picture, exactly what a Norwegian Black Metal band should look like.:hab:

Re: Dimmu Borgir

...I am pleasantly surprised the first song you posted is one of the best Black metal songs I've ever heard.:D I see what you mean by Cinematic and Orchestrated, very fitting description.

I might have to check these guys out now...lol.

Re: Dimmu Borgir

I've read a lot about these guys when I first got into metal, but I'm not a very big black metal fan, so its hard to get into them, except for when I'm in one of the deep, dark moods, which happens to be right now. (That was a run-on sentence >.<)

They have such an Epic feel to them that is missed in a lot of bands. Norwegian black metal at its best.

'Dark Cathedral' huh? That's pretty bad-ass if you ask me.

Re: Dimmu Borgir

Dimmu borgir is one of the more popular black metal bands over here... so that means more then only the black metal lovers listen to them :D
Which, in it's turn, means they have something special..

Re: Dimmu Borgir

Not really got into this band as yet, although the latest album is on my Ipod so I'll certainly give it a go.
To repeat what's already been posted, the words "epic" and "cinematic" definitely sum up the intro's to the songs I have listened to!

Re: Dimmu Borgir

I discovered them back in 1997 with Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. They brought black metal genre into mainstream. The die hard black metal fans are not very fond of this band. Because of their bombastic power keyboards and symphonic structures. They abandoned the raw sound of black metal to more complex and high quality production. So Dimmu Borgir are more appreciated by average metalheads more open minded then the "true" black metal fans :).

^^You hit the nail on the head for me B.o.b., it's because they are more mainstream that I am interested in them.
