I didn't hear him hit one of his signature high notes so I think he's losing his grasp on his upper register personally. :/

Someone just linked me to this and.......it is so very very sad.

It sounds like a middle age drag queen is trying to sing "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" at a karaoke bar while simultaneously doing a Spongebob impersonation. How those judges and that audience thought that was good is beyond me. He didn't even get the words right. :nw:

:wtf: :heheh:

Just picked up the new album. I like it! Favorite song on it right now:

I still need to pick up the new CD so any suggestion of favorite tunes is helpful :grinthumb

Oh my god! You are right! :omg: Your description is spot on and I went in trying to have an open mind. :heheh: I love a lot of those singing competitions though I watch them a lot less than I used to with the over saturation of them. A lot of times a bad performance is just a mistep in style choice. This guy maaaay be good otherwise but cheering that performance without any criticism is delusional. o_O

Sorry but it sucked soooo bad in accordance to the praise it was given.

I mean I wouldn't even say such a thing if the judges were like..... "Meh, it's alright"

It was even a little less than alright. :heheh: The guy said he sticks to ballads mostly and the judges in these shows like to push contestants to try other things and then rip them apart for it usually afterward. Somehow I think they were following the crowd who I have no idea what was going on. Maybe they thought the guy was genuinely retarded and were supporting him in an "Oh, how adorable type way!"

Good point...these are the moments where the lights need to go bye bye. My wife was just saying something to that effect the other day. She misses concerts where the band wasn't hidden behind a million digital lights, smoke, screens, over done pyro ect.

But a bare stage, some canned lighting and the band making everyone go WOW!

I like all the new stgae effects in the last 10-15 years to be honest, but I was talking to a friend on the phone who went and saw Judas Priest on this last tour and he told me "S*** man, I couldn't hardly see them through all the smoke and ****in' lights. I was bummed. But they sounded good"

:heheh:

Last night I saw The Darkness live after nearly ten years of waiting and it was one of the most incredible nights of my young life. :grinthumb

I drove through a snow storm to get from Cleveland to Columbus to go see them. The concert was at the Newport Music Hall, which is the oldest rock venue in the country and while I'd never been there before I really loved the layout of the building. My friend Jordan and I went together, which was spectacular because I hardly ever get to see her and we both have been fans of The Darkness for years. As soon as we got there I had to go to the bathroom (we were drinking margaritas before the show) and while in the lady's room I was chatting with this one woman about how excited we were for the show. Ordinarily this would be trivial and not worth being brought up but it has relevance later in the evening...
We got a really great spot in the venue on a set of stairs close to the stage (mostly since Jordan is pretty short so she could see :heheh:) so we had a great view of everything over what would soon be a sea of clapping hands and horns....after the opener was done anyway. They were a band called Hell or High Water and while I appreciate the effort they put into things I wasn't impressed. Anyway, on with the show!
The Darkness were amazing! Loads of high energy, crowd participation, and a setlist that I couldn't have been more pleased with. :) They played 9 out of 10 songs from "Permission to Land" ("Holding My Own" is the one they left out) and they were all of the most popular songs of the night with the crowd exploding each time one started. It was so great to be a part of. They also had a lot of emphasis on their new album "Hot Cakes" where they played 7 out the 10 songs from it. "Concrete", "Street Spirit", and "Every Inch Of You" all being very well received in particular. Also, this was the first time they played the song "Forbidden Love" live, which was an added little treat. They only played two songs off of "One Way Ticket", which was fine because one of them was "Hazel Eyes", which was the one that I was really hoping they would play off of it. :grinthumb They played the b-side "The Best of Me" as well, which I've always loved. :D
I have to seriously rethinking whether or not Alice Cooper is the greatest concert I have ever been to after last night. Justin was such an entertaining frontman who was captivating, energetic, and very funny (particularly during this bluesy guitar solo he did before "I Believe In A Thing Called Love"). The whole band was just SO much better live than in the studio. There was so much energy in the room from both them and crowd and they fed off of each other. One of the highlights for me was during the last song of the show, "Love On The Rocks With No Ice", which has always been a song that they have turned into a massive, 10+ minute piece and it was no disappointment last night. During a breakdown in the song Dan got Justin up on his shoulders and walked around the venue while the latter played a great guitar solo. While they were doing this everyone was smacking his bum, which I thought was very odd but funny. I touch his arm (Justin has very soft skin actually :heheh:). That was very special for me as my mind drifted back to girlish thoughts of youth when I had the hugest crush on him....*smitten sigh*
After the show ended, people were singing in falsetto in the middle of the street. It was pretty great. :heheh: Jordan and I went back to her apartment to hang out and wind down a bit before I left. I don't know if anyone has ever been to Columbus but the streets are a tad confusing. I made a wrong turn down N. 15th instead of N. 5th like I was supposed to and that street turns into a one way, which I was not going the right way on, after a block so I had to turn down down an alley. As I am driving down this alley I saw this crowd of about a dozen and half people standing around, looking very cold (it was probably 10 degrees out without the wind). That is where I recognized the woman I met in the bathroom and I realized that this was the back of the Newport and they were waiting to meet the band. I found a place to park and went over to join them just as Frankie and Ed were coming out. They were both really cool and humble and talked and joked with us as people asked them to sign things for a bit before going back inside. After another ten minutes of waiting and nearly losing my toes (converse are not great shoes for standing outside in the snow) there was the moment of truth. I was able to meet the Hawkins brother of The Darkness and of course was thoroughly starstruck. Justin was of course charming and had great quips. When I got the chance to talk to him I mentioned that he almost made me wish I wasn't a *******. He answered back how close he came back to "curing me" then, which I got a laugh out of but he immediately apologized because that came out wrong and it wasn't something to joke about. He actually apologized several times and I reassured him that I knew it was a joke didn't take offense to it. He was so nice about that. I got to hug him and get a picture taken of us together (it's in the member picture thread) and him and Dan went back inside after thanking everyone.

The whole ride home I had to keep checking the picture to make sure that all of that had really happened. :heheh: It was a very special evening for me. :D
