They absolutely killed between 85 - 88, so Under Lock and Key and Back For The Attack.

Massively underrated in my book and I could never work out why they were not multi platinum when bands like Warrant and LA Guns seemed to be creaming it with less to offer.
I can only guess that they kind of fell between the cracks as they weren't "bigger than life" and "in your face" the way that Poison, Warrant and a couple other bands were. Talented as hell, great lead singer and (in my honest opinion) one of the greatest guitar players ever. George Lynch is so freakin' talented.

I do agree though, those two albums are insane. Under Lock and Key is top notch from top to bottom. What they started on Tooth and Nail really shined up nice for that album.

Back For the Attack was tight. Fantastic production, sound, and musically they were spot on.

Saw Lynchmob live supporting Queensryche in round 1990 but never Dokken. Pity Don Dokken and George Lynch could not get along. In fact, hated each other by all accounts.

I saw Lynch Mob in 1990 where they were on a smaller club tour with Steelheart opening for them. One of the best shows I've ever been to. Would have loved to have seen Lynch Mob on a much bigger stage opening up for Queensryche, that would have been sweet!

As for Don and George.... by all accounts, Don is one of the biggest pain in the asses in the business... in fact he even says it himself on the One Live Night DVD.

The last time I saw Dokken in concert was in the summer of '88 on the Monsters of Rock Tour, where they were the third band of 5 that day. The others were Kingdom Come (first), Metallica (second), Scorpions (fourth) and Van Halen headlining. There were rumors circulating at the time that there was infighting going on in the band and that day it showed. Lynch was a spectacle to behold and his playing was fantastic, but him and Don didn't get within about 20 feet of each other during their entire set.

Dokken is one of those 80s metal bands that unfairly gets labeled "Hair Metal". Other than Don, George, Mick and Jeff having long hair, there was nothing "Hair Metal" about the band.

A lot of people like to credit Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home" as the first "power ballad", but Dokken's "Alone Again" was released a year earlier. Just some food for thought.

I was hooked on Dokken from the first chord of "Breaking the Chains".

Dokken is on the short list of my favorite bands from the 80s. Totally kick butt metal.

They always had a European flavour to their music mixed with an LA sound. In fact Dokken himself admitted this. So I was happy when he did.

New Dokken video from the upcoming album

Dokken - Empire

Not a bad song, not great. I really really dig Jon's guitar work. He came in as a hired hand to play and sound like George Lynch. As far as I can tell, he does a fantastic job of still doing that, even on the newer stuff. Being a HUGE GL fan that I am, this doesn't turn me off at all.

:D

You got it?

I've listened to a couple of tracks on youtube since I posted that. It's not bad. A bit more mellow than the glory years, but defintely not too bad.
