Couple of thoughts.

1) Why two versions of Smoke and Highway Star?

2) Flaming Lips doing Smoke on the Water? I'm very underwhelmed by that one. The rest of the list doesn't look too bad but that one looks quite lame.

I dunno, could be interesting. I think I'd have rather seen Metallica doing Space Truckin' over Maiden

To be honest i would like to see Metallica recording the whole MACHINE HEAD album i reckon that would be a interesting album to hear??.

The "problem" with IRON MAIDEN doing any cover is that in Steve Harris words they will "MAIDEN'IES" a song (many time & tempo changes) so everything that they ever play ends up sounding like evey other MAIDEN song that Steve and the boy's have ever played in the past if that makes any sense??.

In short DEEP PURPLE'S-SPACE TRUCKIN' covered by Steve and the boy's will sound quite different compared to the original Deep Purple version of this song but will sound more like any other IRON MAIDEN song performed like any of there songs off either the Brave new world or The final frontier albums and everything in between??.

lol What would you expect Iron Maiden to do? Try to sound like some other band doing the cover?
I would love to hear a Maiden sounding Deep Purple cover.
I have always believed bands who do covers should try to be respectful to the original song but at the same time make it their own in terms of the sound and how they perform it.

True Riff but wot i mean about IRON MAIDEN sounding like IRON MAIDEN is anything IRON MAIDEN plays even a DEEP PURPLE cover they will sound like IRON MAIDEN!!. Do you get it??.

Wot i'm really saying is 'everything' that MAIDEN have recorded since maybe when Blaze was fronting the band in the late 1980s but definitely since Bruce came back and recorded the Brave new world album back in 1990 EVERY SONG THAT THIS BAND HAS RECORDED SOUNDS THE SAME AS THE PREVIOUS SONG!!. (to my ears??).

Clear as mud eh??.

Yeah true either way Maiden doin a Purple song will be interesting although i thought that Purple's classic song CHILD IN TIME would have been a more appropriate song for those guy's to cover in my humble opinion??.

CHILD IN TIME starts off slow then builds and builds to the fast mid-section before slowing down towards the finishing post just the way that Maiden like to play all there songs and Bruce always was compared to Ian Gillan of Deep Purple in his vocals.
