I'm sure this is one group that is already on peoples radar and that's great! They are part of the seemingly huge influx of Blues Rock revivalist but to me these guys stick out a lot more for their blend of soul which was my personal selling point and Southern Rock. Some songs are pure soul and R&B to the point where I felt Motown was still at it's height. To me the band are great but I feel this is a Big Brother and The Holding Company deal and that lead singer Brittany Howard is there Janis. In other words I think any Blues Rock band needs a singer with a soulful voice to build around. You don't necessarily hear it in the single but after you hear the album Brittany is a powerhouse! Here are some great tracks off of the debut album:

I've heard them mentioned in a Dutch TV program. After that I listened to some of their songs. Generally speaking a soul band? Great music though.

Sunny, I'm glad you like them! Jen had one of their songs, aside from one of the singles on her page that was good and my friend really recommended them as well. I didn't even know the singer was female based on the single. :bonk:

Re: Alabama Shakes

Funny you should say that about Brittany's voice. I really don't much care for many female singers and prefer them with much deeper, richer voices than the majority of them possess

She has a lot of Janis moments when you listen to the album and then you know she's a powerful chick! In the single she sounds like someone mimicking Jack White! :heheh:

Re: Alabama Shakes

I really, really love these guys Soots (as you know :D). I had first caught wind of them via the iTunes song of the week, "Hold On", which really isn't my favorite now that I've bought the album but it was enough to get me into them. Brittany Howard's powerhouse vocals really make this band unique. I hear a little Tina Turner influence in there as well as the Janis and she really is a vocal chameleon with a voice that spans various genres in my opinion. You mentioned "You Ain't Alone" which is my absolute favorite on the album as well as these.
