Dinosaur Jr. is an American alternative rock band formed in Amherst, Massachusetts in 1984. They y disbanded in 1997 until reuniting in 2005.

Their distinct sound, which is characterized by high gain, extensive use of feedback and distortion, and frontman J Mascis's melodic guitar solos, were highly influential in the alternative rock movement of the 1990s, which is exemplified by the success of acknowledged fan Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. Henry Rollins and Sonic Youth are also big fans of Dinosaur Jr.

Great band one of my favorites of all time. Shame they are barely even known.

Damn, I was going to make a thread on D. Jr. :p Ah well, you did a good job anyway ! :)

I love this band but haven't heard their last 2 albums to be honest... I should, but I'm a bit afraid they'll dissapoint me.

This is one of those bands that some day I will pick up one of their albums. I have liked the little that I have heard on the radio, and would like to hear more.

Didn't the start at Zoo Mass Amherst?

Re: Dinosaur Jr

I really like "Bug": *I would rate it a 9/10*

to like this album you have to like their early sounds, all the screeching music and soft melodic vocals....a really strange mash up!

My next favorite would be "Where You Been": *also rate 9/10*

This album marked a big change for DJ, it was very polished compared to the earlier works. A change for the better, IMO. Diehard fans thought this was a sell out to mainstream.

Love Dinosaur Jr.

Farm is great, it's good to see older bands still making quality music!

Re: Dinosaur Jr

Dinosaur Jr. are awesome. Their two most recent albums were superb and as good as the stuff they released in the 80's/90's.
