Van Halen can definitely still rock the roof
They all sound great and look like they are having a very good time.
I can't wait to see them on March 9th!

The 2007 / 2008 tour was for the greatest hits fans, this is supporting A Different Kind of Truth.

Wish they would announce some UK shows man.

What do you expect them to play? The entire new album?

Not going to happen especially as I said this is a Reunion tour as much as a support tour for the new record.

The set list works fine as is. Keep it with the current pattern of a few hits THEN new material then repeat the cycle. The die hard classic VH fans are the ones who are going to be paying the most for the best seats at these shows and going out of their way to see an old favorite. Give them what they're paying for, and let the new material pay its dues before it becomes a more integral part of their shows.

I think Eruption/You Really Got Me would be a fantastic closer! But if I remember correctly, didn't they end the show with You Really Got Me during the last Sammy tour? I know I remember hearing it near the end of the set...

It doesn't matter what album they are supporting. It is still basically a greatest hits tour.

I thought they might do more than 4 new songs, though they are only playing their second show of the tour tonight so the setlist could change.

Dave has been an OFFICIAL member of Van Halen since 2007, they have recorded and released an album of music since the last tour in 2008. Are Iron Maiden still on a reunion tour since they got together in 1999?

How many songs from the lastest album does an artist have to play for it not to be a greatest hits tour?

The tour is getting great reviews. I'm really happy for them. I hope they can keep their differences out of the music this time.

I couldn't tell you that, but in the past few years I have seen Tom Petty,Journey,Foreigner,Kiss and Lynyrd Skynyrd .They all had new albums out at the time of the concert and not one of those bands played more than 4 new songs. Most fans are not there to hear the new songs

Only legacy band I've seen that played 3/4ths of the new album like a new act does, is Neil Young. Saw him twice and even with CSNY he played almost his entire new album. Other than that I think there are a couple others who play a lot of new stuff and that's it, you can pretty much count on only hearing a few of the new songs at just about any legacy band's show.

I would much rather hear the new material. It's almost funny how they'll be playing 30 year old songs and they sound ragged as heck, one foot in the grave... then they launch into the new single and they're spitting sonic fire, they sound just as sharp and alive as on the record.

But I understand why these bands pretty much have to play the classic material. That's what the vast majority of the audience is there to see and even though I adore the new albums from Petty, Van Halen, The Stones etc., the old material is what makes them great. If Mojo was the only album Petty ever released, they'd be a merely decent group. And I say that as a guy who would rather see Petty play just 6 Mojo songs and then leave, instead of playing only 5 Mojo songs and adding the same 10 GH tracks he always plays.

I don't have a problem with greatest hits setlists at all, I just ask that you vary the setlist year to year. Shuffle the order, substitute smaller hits for other small hits and fan favorites for other fan favorites, throw in a couple subterranean deep cuts for us diehards.

IMHO this being a new Van Halen w/ Dave tour trumps the new album TBH. I think we could see more of the new tracks in the setlist for the NEXT tour. Unfortunately though, classic rock artists have very short attention spans for anything they released less than 30 years ago so if Halen follows the lead of a lot of other bands, they might drop the new songs all-together next tour.

That's true, though when I saw Kiss, I wanted to hear Sonic Boom, I can take or leave Cold Gin and most of the early stuff, but I was well pissed off when they played 3 songs off it, and ignored all the good ones like Russian Roulette, Never Enough etc.

But I'm in the minority.

More bands should do what Bruce Springsteen does and play the whole album over the course of the tour. So at the moment Van Halen are doing Tattoo, She's The Woman, The Trouble With Never and Chinatown. In a weeks time change it too Stay Frosty, Honeybabysweetiedoll, Bullethead and Beats Workin' for example.

I realize with productions the size of Van Halen's and Kiss's, its hard to programme the show to accomodate changes like that, but especially in VH's case, new music is extremely rare, they should play the shit out of it.
