Band of Skulls - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Band of Skulls is an alternative English rock trio that is a relatively new find for me. The band consists of lead vocalist Russell Marsden, bassist Emma Richardson and Matt Hayward on drums. Having just stumbled across their newest tune "Sweet Sour" just last week, I was so pumped over it that I shared it with the forum. Tonight I skimmed through a bit of their work and found that these guys ROCK! They fall under the alternative category, but can easily appeal to hard rock and blues rock fans alike, and I think they rock hard enough to gain a little appreciation on the forum even amongst the more seasoned rock aficionados.

Albums:

Baby Darling Doll Face Honey (2009)
Friends EP (2010)
Sweet Sour (2012)

Their new one, described as "modern blues rock" with a pretty kickin' guitar riff!

Sweet Sour

The Devil Takes Care Of His Own

And a rockin' Stones cover from SXSW a couple years ago!

Sympathy For The Devil

Check 'em out if you have time! :cheers2

Re: Band of Skulls

Hey boo, I apologize I'm not at my most expressive here due to being tired but I like these guys more than most retro bands. I mean I get the appeal of these guys 100 times more than The Black Keys. I like the second song "Devil takes Care of His Own" even better than Stone Sour. The riff is catchy and I like how all the different vocalists sing together so you can still hear all the individual voices. This is blues rock but heavy too and catchy enough for a wide audience. There RS cover was well done as well. I'd recommend this too anyone who likes Classic rock and is still open to new bands. Whoever hopped on that other cool band, Rival Sons, should hop in here too for sure! :cheers2

Re: Band of Skulls

Thanks Soots. Funny you brought up how well the male and female vocals come together and harmonize on that track. My thoughts exactly. Anyway, I like how these guys don't fit into that modern day mold so many others seem to follow and incorporate those elements that many classic rock and hard rock fans in general can appreciate. I really do think Sweet Sour is a good song for any blues rock lover and even Lynch liked it so that says something. :heheh::grinthumb

Sweet Sour is pretty cool. No kidding on the blues driven riffing. Nice melodies in there too. Whoever says Modern Rock is shit are just deluded narrow minded folk.

Yeah I like this band! I caught them earlier on the radio, when the song first cranked up I thought it was a new one by Kings of Leon, turns out it is Band of Skulls' latest single, 'Bruises'

What a crackin' cover of Sympathy for the Devil too :grinthumb

Hey Riffy and Tray! Thanks for stopping by. Riff I know it is totally out of your comfort zone being a metal fan and all so, very cool of you to check this band out. :grinthumb

Tray, when I heard these guys I was about 110% sure you'd dig 'em. Bought their debut album, "Baby Darling Doll Face Honey" today and so far from what I've previewed of it it has sort of an atmospheric indie thing meets blues/hard rock going on. Not really into the Black Keys as Soots mentioned earlier but I've seen the comparison to them before too so I get why you could get into this band.

Here's a song that you guys will find familiar that I had an "a-ha!" moment with as I had heard it plenty of times before being used in television and had NO idea it was BOS. It has some very, VERY strong classic rock undertones. Very retro. See if you recognize it...

Light of the Morning

Another from the same album I enjoyed. Cool bass riff!

Im feeling bold enough to get an album of this group, they have a nice bluesy touch that you described, and I am a sucker for good blues music.

Sweet Sour is the song you sent to me earlier in the week, right? Interesting, yet cool tune. I'll definitely be checking out more songs by these guys.

Yes, it was Lynchie, and it surprised the hell out of me when you liked it. I'll never quite achieve converting you to Coldplay, but I'm glad you liked these guys. :heheh:
