I'm a huge fan of Lana Del Ray. She's amazing, refreshing, has a great ambiance to her music, stands out in todays market, has a great voice and as Jen pointed out there are enough great performances in my thread to not even worry about the above posted.

Reasons to put this artist under the microscope and take joy in this are obvious. She's a young artist (we love picking on those young ones :heheh:) who obviously has sex appeal and she's definitely going to have appeal in the pop markets. Oh nooz! She's also had a huge buzz and push so promotion is never healthy unless it's a band we already like. :D The performance was bad but it was obviously nerves from an artist who had a lot of potential but was on a huge venue doing Saturday Night Live and she joked. Seeing as veterans have their own bad performances under their belt I always laugh at where the microscope is pointed.

In the meantime, definitely picking up the disc when it comes out. This one definitely qualifies for one of my all day music shopping/road trips! :cheers2

^^^ Soot.. this situation reminds me of Marion Raven.

She really came out big in 2006 with her second album "Set Me Free"
cd-cover.jpg

Right away it was her looks that were more noticed.. She even had Meatloaf help her on one song and was being throw out there with some big names trying to help her out..
She kinda fizzled and from what i think i know was she was supposed to do another album in 2011 called "Flesh and Blood" and I just checked and didn't find anything so maybe the album never came out..
Maybe it will be the same with Lana or maybe she will pull it together and use this SNL thing to make her stronger..
I feel she sings well as a saprano.. If she drops down to a low alto it seems to be a struggle for her voice.. She really sounds good up higher and more like a better fit for the type of singing she does..

Good observations Slip N' as that seemed to be the strengths she held onto in that particular performance. I welcome you to check out the performances in the official thread so you can see how fans first heard her. I honestly think you judge an artist by how you first hear them. If you hear the name hyped up and then hear the SNL performance especially if you aren't in the stage of music where you want to explore you will take it as a one shot. That's cool but it leaves a lot of room for error concerning potential good music. Here's the thread for further perspective:

Lana Del Rey

Just want to say that Marion Raven was great. I always had her on my list when looking for music but it never showed in stores. I think her demise had nothing to do with talent whatsoever which shows that he only gauge you can go by is your own taste through exploration because either America won't have the proper exposure to get into it due to record company politics. As for the record company they were absolute morons for not giving her a proper tour before a big gig like SNL. Anyone can see there are nerves there which explains why most of the mistakes are in the first third before she eased into the song. :grinthumb

OH ILJP has already brought Lana to my attention and I have been listening to some of her video's.. I can't put my finger on just what it is about her style that dosn't draw me in 100%.. I like her voice and I don't just call it on her looks, but maybe it's the style of singing she does that has me wondering about her.
SNL has had it's fair share of Bombed live performances.. I've seen tons of bands on there totally suck.. It seems they bring what's new and hot on there all the time so.. I guess in Lana's case.. she maybe was intimidated by being there.. I also know I have a hard time following her lyrics which is something that I really focus on when I listen to a artist like her..

I can respect that Slip'N! It may just be a love it or hate it style. I've already written what I love about her style in the thread but I think it's awesome you got more background and made a good assessment! :cheers2

Bingo, bingo, bingo! Couldn't have said it better myself Soots. I've found that a lot of the people I see making digs at pop artists or anything outside of their bubble for that matter haven't even listened to more than a minute or so of some song that others criticized so they can join the bandwagon and feel cool. I admit at first I didn't know what to think of Lana but you hit it spot on. She is new, young, fresh, exciting and different and that rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Won't keep me from having her album in my collection (which I already pre-ordered anyway :grinthumb).

Applause! Finally, someone who gives someone a good listen before jumping on the hater train. That is something I've always enjoyed about you Slippy you don't mind cheesing it up once in awhile and keep an open mind to new artists and expand your horizons. Kudos to you that is very admirable and fair. :grinthumb

I think the "worst" performance, if you can call it that on SNL will have to be Ashlee Simpson for me still.

Or this :pullhair:

:oyea: I'm sorry...I don't care if it's jazz MAN...can we all decide what song we're all gonna play and stick to it??

:heheh:

Please move the trashcan closer to my bed, as I continue to expell large amounts of copious liquid in regards to that performance.

Sorry Soots

Oh dear. She seems very heavily medicated here... just so long as I can just look at the picture of her in ILJP's sig, and not have to ever listen to her singing again, then I'm good.
