2000's, followed by the 90's. I absolutely abhor modern music (rock/pop/rap/hip hop) with the exception of a few bands.

Based on new evidence I'd have to revise my vote. I don't listen to much from the 50s so I don't consider them bad or good, which means I'd have to go with the 80s as my least favorite decade.

Luckily the 10s have panned out for me as a new renaissance of sorts, I like more music from just '10 and '11 as from the whole 80s. And some of those modern acts have made me look back on some 00s releases. Not much from the first 7 or so years but '08 and '09 in particular have some of the greatest albums ever made, not unlike how the very tail end of the 60s had some of my favorite records from 70s bands like Neil's EKTN.

Now I'd have to rank the 00s about on par with the 80s. Not in general that much my cup of tea, but with a few massive wins, that goes for both decades. So it comes down to bands, and if I were to put my favorite 80s bands against my favorite 00s bands, the 00s would win. It's a close race though.

I never would have imagined, AAG, with you being such a fan of the pop genre that you'd choose the 80's. :uh:

I will have to say the 50s because I own the least a content in my library from that era. Also I wonder if some of the people who say the 2000's even give that decade a chance or if they have predetermined that all music from the past 11 or so years is garbage without even exploring it.

Now that Apple has destroyed the path for musical careers that are not backed by some major entertainment outlet or born on TV in some talent contest, (think American Idol), its the period from 2000 to now. It is primarily a muisical desert.

That's preposterous. There are more acts out today than ever before in history.

The labels don't have more control today, they have less. You've always needed a record deal to get far, that's the same way it was in 1967. Except today we have stronger advantages, because we ahve the internet, which means anybody in the world has access to potential millions of listeners with one click. Not only that, but we can download, for free, the exact same powerful music programs that the biggest hitmakers use.

There's more power in the independent sector today than there ever has been before. Youtube acts get signed all the time. Heck, indie rock is the most powerful style in rock right now.

Which the exception of a handful of groups, I think the last 20 years of music have been horrible, and getting worse. Look no further than Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Hanson, etc.
