I agree RS ,, I got it on vinyl in the eighties and again on cd a few years ago. For my money it's just a great showcase for the array of musicians that feature on it and with Wolf at the helm the sound is complete .. it just works.

He was the headliner at the Chicago Blues Festival 2010...I wasn't able to see him, but I got a t-shirt, and he was on the front. It definately would have been a cool act to see. Definately a blues legend!

Howlin Wolf is probably my favorite blues vocalist.

A couple of my faves. He was great at laughing at himself as well.

Hate to break it to you, but Chester Arthur Burnett (AKA: Howlin Wolf ) died on January 10, 1976.

Excellent thread Sox! :good

Smokestack Lightning

In the days of steam trains, the train engine would have a smokestack at it's front. As the steam would power the locomotive, the excess was pushed out of the smokestack, along with residual sparks. In the night, it could look like lightning. As Howlin' Wolf himself put it:

"We used to sit out in the country and see the trains go by, watch the sparks come out of the smokestack. That was smokestack lightning"

^^^ Nice one Garrett, he was a larger than life figure and all my musical heroes cite him as their hero. What he laid down helped create the bedrock of the music I love.

Easily my favorite of the old bluesmen...In many ways, I think that he transcended the blues. The Wolf was a ****ing force of nature.
