The Damned is a punk rock band formed in 1976 in London, England who are still active today. The founding members include Rat Scabies (left due to dispute over the release of the album Not of This World in 1995), Brian James, Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible, but Captain Sensible is the last founding member left in the band today. The Damned became the first punk UK band to release a single, release an album, tour the US, and have a song on the UK music charts.

Haha, yeah, that name is pretty great.

I wish I owned all of their albums.. Because I almost never have any money, I'm kind of limited on the amount of albums I can purchase in a year. I do have a few of their albums, though, I own their first three albums (Machine Gun Etiquette being my favorite) and I skipped quite a few years and got Not of This Earth and Grave Disorder. There's no such thing, though, as a bad album with these guys, so I do plan to get all of their albums someday.

Re: The Damned

That's the great thing about the digital age, those albums will be there waiting whenever you have the means. I know when I was your age I had to make my money last. Usually I would wait until the local record shop had their big sales...bought many a fine album for $2.97 back in those days and some for as little as $.97...:D

Not a huge punk fan myself anymore, so recommend the most 'accessible' album as far as musicianship/production values go...or your best shot.:grinthumb

I've never really been a fan of punk, but there's something about The Damned that I like.

Here's my favourite:

Machine Gun Etiquette is their best album by leaps and bounds. It's easily one of the 5 best albums in the punk canon.

Their first album, Damned Damned Damned is excellent as well. Other than those two records the band is unfortunately for miss than hit.

This is my favorite of their songs:

Really? I've liked pretty much everything they've done except for maybe a few songs. Although, I do agree that Machine Gun Etiquette and Damned, Damned, Damned, were their best work.

To each their own, I guess. :D

Rat Scabies is a great punk drummer, one of the best punk drummers. I like The Damned. I remember back around 1979/1980 I used to hear this song called "Jet Boy Jet Girl" which was by Captain Sensible & the Softies on this one radio station in my area. The station always played a lot of underground songs & non hit songs(They'd play songs like Alice Cooper's You Drive me Nervous & BOC's ME262). Anyway, they'd play this Jet Boy Jet Girl song & I thought it was a joke/novelty song because of the lyrical content "Ooh Ooh Ooh He gives me head" but man did that song kick ass. I loved the guitars on it. A couple of years later I had discovered Punk & read about the Damned so I picked up a Best of cassette &... Jet Boy Jet Girl was on that compilation(It said by Captain Sensible & The Softies on the record). I liked that record especially "New Rose", "Love Song", & "Hit or Miss". By the mid 80's I was hanging out at a Punk club called the Continental & they would always string together "I Wanna be Sedated", "Jet Boy Jet Girl", & "Surfin' on Heroin(a song by Canadian Punks The Forgotten Rebels that had the same kind of sound & feel of the other 2 aforementioned tunes). Man the place would go nuts for those 3 songs right in a row
