^^That's unusual George, that they wouldn't have adjusted the DVD SPL to the usual standard. Considering how many remasters have driven audiophiles crazy the last 15 years that's the first time I've heard anyone comment about a DVD having that same issue.

I don't have that one in the library...not really a huge music DVD fan myself but Nolo is right they sure did kick ass during that concert.

Hi Bruce. Yes, I have my system's levels at 75 db on all channels. My starting point is -20 on the volume which I dial to -10 which is my comfort level. When you get the disc's start menu, it is blasting at you. It is loud!

What I find as an interesting aside is Blackmore losing his hair but nowadays he has a full mop. A wig?

^^Moments like that I thank Gawd for remote controls.

Could be, doesn't bother me if any of them wear a piece or not, I actual prefer Richie to do that than go the Bruce Willis route...:heheh:

I don't find it a big deal either but it was obvious to this music fan who has followed him from Purple to Rainbow to his Moon project. Blackmore's my second favorite player. Uncle Ted in a Creem interview complementary described him as a "b***h" on the guitar while saying Zeppelin was "American as a Ford" to Lisa Robinson. Nugent is a funny cat.

Now about the concert, I have a Japanese laserdisc of it which is much smoother, natural sounding with better two channel stereo separation. Thank goodness for eBay. There is also a TV concert from Copenhagen in 1972 that is out on both formats in black and white. Blackmore must hate cameramen. He threw a big glass of water at one in the "Come Hell Or High Water" film.

^^I bought a Laserdisc player just before DVD's were coming out, so I never invested in them. They were amazing at the time, the Director's Cut, the different camera angles on the really deluxe versions...kind of sad they went extinct so fast. But you must be happy you held on to that copy if you say it's better balanced than the DVD.

I think the BIG difference between the two is that the DVD is boosted up digitally while the laserdisc retained that analog feel from the original TV broadcast due to it being an older format.

Love the jacket with the obi too. The picture isn't the one that I own but it is the same version.

^^True enough, back then "Pro Logic" was the newest surround sound format and it was analog as well. Those Laserdiscs were as glorious as the old gatefold album covers too, I miss those massive covers.:D

A little bit of tweaking on my system and it sounds fine to me. That tweaking thing goes for just about any DVD that I own that the footage was recorded in the 70's though.

I don't have this concert in any video format (I have it on audio), so I need to get it regardless. It's a massive, take no prisoners performance.

Thanks for the video links Nololob! :grinthumb
