So LG you are voting based on whose body of work you like better, rather than just who you think has the best voice? I vote solely on who I think has the best pipes, regardless if they have 1 album or 30, or if I like their band. You do the polls differently?

This is something I have talked about myself over the years on this site and others. It's really hard to make a "rule" regarding how to vote in these polls.

Which is it:
  • who do you LIKE more?
  • who do you think has the most talent?
  • which band that this artist was in do you like more?
  • whose style do you like more?
You can lay out any sort of "rules" for how you want people to vote and they will still vote however the hell they feel and usually it's a popularity thing as opposed to any other way of looking at it.

When Charlie Watts beats out Neil Peart in a drummer poll (yes, I HAVE seen that), it's quite obvious that it was really a "Rolling Stones vs Rush" in the way many people voted. See what I'm getting at?

Yup, I get it. People can vote any way they want, but sometimes I like to compare who I think has the most actual talent with what other members think, and it can be hard to do when the votes are chosen for varying reasons. I would like to see polls divided into who is your favorite vs who is the best, but I understand there would still be biases based on band/music likes and dislikes.

It varies according to who is involved. I have no hard and fast rule for any of these polls, unlike my friend TC who gets lathered up about some of these match-ups I look at them as just fun nothing earthshaking.

Sometimes I do go on a body of work Tony gave me stick in another poll for the same thing involving drummers.

I'll clarify, I like Robert Plants vocals in Led Zeppelin more than I like Paul Rodgers vocals in either Free or Bad Company.

I am not including either one of their solo projects, just their absolute best years when both were in their prime.
